My girlfriend still isn't finished with Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky. She reads about a page or two a night and is instantly asleep.

I'm kept awake by a book with a strong narrator, one that really tells the story and isn't there just to acknowledge the setting and tell the reader who is speaking.

Stereo manuals, educational books, history books, those put me to sleep like a baby *lol*

What will keep me awak are horror stories and spychological thrillers, lying in bed, clutching my blanket and eyes peeking over covers ;)

I can't keep myself awake when I read stories that are about typical people and their lives. I never made it past the first chapter of Great Expectations. I have to have something unusual -- aliens, dinosaurs, time travel, magic...
