How does the music of the past affect the music of the now generation?..

Today's music would not exist if the pioneers of rock n roll had not done their thing. Think about all the rock music that has come since then. Think about all the jazz and blues that came before rock n roll. They influenced rock n roll. It seems each generation of music somehow influences another generation. They seem to find new ways of presenting the same genre, either through technology or creating a new sound.
