I think we mostly do. You can't hear a comment from a muslim spokesperson of any kind, without the issue of 'American arrogance' coming to the fore. The perception of 'arrogance' does seem to be very important to Muslims. Often in the same breath, you'll hear the 'humilation' suffered by the Palestinians or other Muslims brought up as justification for terrorism or the insurgency.

Unfortunately, many judge the group as a whole by the actions and attitudes of a few. The same applies to Muslims. Some Americans view all Muslims as terrorists because a few Muslims are terrorists. Many Americans, however, are able to see the difference between the radical fringe and the group as a whole. I would only hope most in the Islamic world would be able to do the same

I do believe that Americans talk about Islam with ignorance because they dont really understand what Islam is really about. Ive said this a million times NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE THE SAME!
But if American really open their eyes and understand what Muslims and Islam is really about I think they wouldnt talk like they do.
As a Muslim I was raised very well and to respect others and to let everyone know what Islam is. If I meet someone and have a good conversation and present myself right then that person will get a good impression on Muslims and Islam. But if all people see on tv is bombings by Muslims what impression does that give?
This is only my opinion. I just hope one day people will really see what Islam really is.

Is the Islamic world who..Shi'ites..or anyone you can speak for? If we are so arrogant then they can all return to their native countries..
do Americans realize how self-righteous and arrogant it sounds to allow countries to break treaties and thumb their noses..threaten political adversaries hire suicide bombers..
and all of those things be wrong when a Democrat addresses them..like in Yugoslavia..where Clinton bought into muslim lies..for a payday via Enron
yet arrogant when convenient when it is Bush..

It's never once occurred to me that Americans as a whole would appear anything but magical and savior like in the Muslim world.
Oh, and considering that the U.S. doesn't let other people choose who its friends are, we're going to continue being a friend to Israel, and hence we will keep being hated in the Muslim world.

who speaks for "the islamic world"? Because every time "islam" and "terrorists" are linked together, we are told that "terrorists hijacked the religion" and "islam is a great diverse religion."
So how does islam become united when speaking of how Americans appear to them, yet totally disjointed when terrorism is raised?
But - be that as it may - your question presupposes that islam does NOT appear self-righteous and arrogant to Americans. Americans fought and died to establish rights for women, and here comes islam: hey women! Wear burqas! Wear hijabs! Subjegate yourselves to husbands with multiple wives!

Yes our foreign policy is similar to Islamic religeous dogma. We try force democracy down your throat and you constantly try to force Sharia law and fundamentalist garbage down the throats of every country you are allowed into.
We make mistakes and have supported the wrong people on numerous occaisions and we have been very wrong. Most people in this country are oblivious to this because the majority seem to have a short attention span.
So no they are not aware.
But they are not lighting their younger sisters on fire on street corners for smiling at a neighbor or for refusing to wear a burqha. Nor are they stoning people to death based upon an antiquated Sharia system founded before the dark ages either.
We have been involved in wars and killed many people around to world, and I know we are not always the, "GOOD GUYS". like I said before we have made egregious errors.
But we are not promising the youth of our country an after life of 72 virgins, and plenty of water if they will strap on a bomb vest and walk into a market crowded with THEIR OWN PEOPLE and detonate it.
We do not cheer when crazed zealots kill innocent people (women and children) because they believe they are morally superior and have the right to shed innocent blood in order to proove a point.
You tell us to POLICE our actions and take care in our actions, and to support the right people. You curse us for our free ways, and you tell us to control our politicians.
Yet you refuse to police your own religeon and dogma. You allow hatred to rule the day so that the only face of Islam (traditionally a very tolerant religeon) seen today is one of bombs, death, and hatred.
You refuse to ackowledge that fanatics are at the helm and you cannot reign them in and control them either.
So you see we are in similar boats you and I. We do have some things in common. We have let fear and loathing rule the day, and now the intolerant fanatics on both sides are driving. We are on a course that leads to one end and only the smiling rictus grin of death is happy at the outcome.
It makes you wonder if this is truly what the God of Abraham truly wanted?

the truth is the average American doesn't have a clue about anything else going on outside Hollywood, and we tend to believe all we see in the media like fox news and all that when they say we are trying to help the Arabs, but not to blame them because most of the world believed bush when he blatantly lied about Iraq, well we now know the true reasons for Iraq, which was for the oil and to try to compensate with Saddam for not being able to catch bin-laden

Most Americans are not nearly as arrogant as the asker of this question who is an American who now claims to speak for "the Islamic world". What makes this person think he can speak for all muslims?

Hell, I don't have to go anywhere to see that!! But when I was in the AF, stationed in Germany, many (most) of my fellow Americans would just speak LOUDER rather than trying to learn and understand German. They'd also act like total jerks at the topless beaches. It was embarrassing!!
