Because many people react to socialism and communism based on emotional triggers, and it's a good way to slander people you don't like.
Very few people who are using the terms are actually using them the way the dictionary defines the terms. Which makes any meaningful conversation difficult.

They want to shut down what makes this country great. And that is that if you work hard at something you will accomplish what you wish. Now we all get to be miserable together. If communism was so great why arent the USSR still around? Even China is changing their ways to capitalistic ways. And well the other big communist country Cuba, they are doing so great they are willing to die to elave their Island.
