Think I got paid monthly and it was about £80. I gave my mum some, bought a train pass and a load of clothes. It was so exciting!!

Back in '74 my first wage packet was £15.40. It came in a little sealed envelope with my name and the amount written on it. I remember the amount exactly because I had planned to take the unopened packet home to show my mum and dad but then went to the shop at dinner time and bought my lunch using one of the £5 notes . When I got back to work I looked at the rest of my wages and found that there was only one fiver left . I then spent an hour retracing my steps looking at the floor to try and find the missing £5. I very nearly got sacked for being late back...and no the £5 never turned up.

I made about $70 for the week and I put it away with the next 2 months pay until I had a down payment on a car that cost me $85 per month to pay off. The car was brand new off the show room floor!

Yes I was under aged and had to get a work permit so they let me continue to work but held my pay for three weeks. When I got that first check I thought I was filthy rich! Never saw so much money in all my life! I kept stacking it it in piles, sniffing the crisp bills. I think I even washed them so they looked crisper! Eventually I bought a little camera with the money.
