My 1995 Trans AM has been in the shop since Friday the 13th . I took it in because the motor for the power window and the A/C compressor did not work. I rented a car so I am paying $32 per day. The motor was replaced and it worked, then they replaced the A/C compressor, well unfortunately it did not work. He said that the compressor works, but for some reason it is not cooling my car. They flushed out the system and put in freon and nothing happened. My car was supposed to be ready last Tuesday at the latest, the rental cost is killing me. If he can not fix it tomorrow should I just pay him for the window and the cost of the compressor, the cost for everything, or pay him for only fixing my window?

you don't specify if you took it to a dealership or not. when he replaced the compressor did he also replace the orfice and the accumulator [dryer]? if these were not replaced and there is metal shavings in the orfice it is not going to get cool. if he did and it is not cooling there is a cycling switch, usually on the accumulator, that makes the compressor come on. if it isn't on the dryer is will be in the lines somewhere. a dealership would have found the problem to begin with not just thrown parts at it. I would pay for the window because it is working. the a/c thing would piss me off. be careful though, the mechanic can put a labor lean against your car until you pay for it. did he have you sign anything prior to the repair? if he didn't there goes the labor lean. good luck. ps. the ac control head could also have something to do with it.

what i would do is have them take out that a/c compressor and order another one and just pay for the window right now then when the other a/c compressor comes in then u will see if its your car or the compressor at that point if its the a/c compressor works it self.....then pay for it but if its not the a/c compressor get what ever the problem is fixed

Two different jobs: the window and the A/C.

You say the window is fixed; pay him parts and labor (and tax) for that. On the A/C, pay for parts, but not labor.

However, all 50 states have something called a Mechanic's Lien; basically the shop can refuse to give you back your car if you don't pay the bill. Talk to the manager first and see if he'll be reasonable about it. If not, pay by check, take possession of the car, then stop payment on the check.

In all fairness you should pay him for all the work that he has done. Just for a note might be an air lock on the compressor
