Talent Agents are entitled to a 10%-15% commission on the money you make from your acting roles.

It is the ONLY money to which they are entitled from the actor.

How Much Do Agents Cost?

$0 up front. Never pay up front for an agent, no matter what they tell you!

An agent gets 10%-15% AFTER you've not only booked the job, but also after the client has paid them and then they give you your cut.

The first thing I would recommend is that you get good training. You might be able to get an agent, but you also want to be able to keep him/her and get sent out on lot of auditions.

I answer questions like this a lot and so instead of writing the same or similar answers over and over again, I have created a 36-page ebooklet that answers your question pretty thoroughly.
Just go to http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acs-blog.html , sign in on the right side of the page and you can download it for free. It's called: What It Takes To Become An Actor.

The second resource you'll want to look at that really answers your question as you asked it is: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html . It takes you through a process that I used to get two agents and a personal manager in a short period of time.

Just remember that getting an agent will most probably not answer all your prayers. You still have to do your share. Remember that the agent only gets 10% of the take, so in my opinion, a good attitude to have is that YOU have to do 90% of the work to make sure you get seen. If it turns out that your agent is getting you a lot of auditions, then great, but don't count on it. And that, my friend, is why I answered the first part of this question the way I did. You need a lot of other things if you are in this for the long haul!

Hope this helps!

NOTHING!

This is why you hear about to many scams. To have an agent costs you absolutely nothing, except maybe the expenses of your headshots (which is different from a photoshoot or anything like that, all actors need headshots but you need them with or without agents)

An agent's job is to find work for you, if they don't find you work, neither you nor them get paid. Say they do get you a job, then they are intitled to about 10-15% of what you made, but other than that you do not pay an agent at all.

They get paid when you get paid. If they are doing their job, they'll spend the money and get paid by deducting from what you make, not by up front payments to them

Agents do not charge you for representation. They only take a small percentage of any contract that they get for you. Any "agent" who wants money from you up front before they will represent you is a fraud.
