My daughter was just diagnosed with it yesterday.
1. How do the stand the hunger pains? If they take tums or antacids, would it harm them?
2. How much weight do they loose if they eat less than 500 calories a day and walk for a bout an hour a day in a week?
3. Do they get sent to the hospital if they've been anorexic for about 2 weeks?
Thank you.

1. Tums won't generally harm a person with anorexia. If anything, it gives them a little calcium (often in short supply). "Hunger pains" are often cognitively re-labelled by anorexics as indicators of "success" or "victory". Some do not experience hunger pangs at all. Others ignore them.

2. This depends on the current weight and height of the patient, as well as just how trashed her metabolism is already.

3. An anorexic is not made in 2 weeks. So, no. Barring unusual circumstances (e.g., co-morbid suicidality), if a child has been engaging in food restriction for only a couple of weeks, she would not be hospitalized without first trying less restrictive levels of care.

2 weeks it wont have done much hard/ they hospitalize them when they are dangerously under weight like below 100 lbs. ask the doctor the other one

the hunger pains after awhile you dont feel them. the reason being you forget how to eat. tums will make you sick on an empty tummy.

get your child help now.

i am a survivor i still fight with the urge to not eat but i have dealt with what caused the disease. she needs counseling there is an underlying issue involved get the whole family into therapy

i am so sorry to hear that your daughter has an eating disorder. i know exactly what you are going through as my niece was diagnosed with an eating disorder when she was twenty.you will need to give your daughter all the support that she needs.dont judge her and dont make a big issue out of it.there is a lot out of help out there, but it may take time to get one that will suit your daughter.give her lots of praise.an eating disorder is not really about food,it can be a lack of self confidence,it is a way of being able to control some part of your life, let her eat small meals, try to encourage her to eat fruit an vegatables and protein.go for walks ,enjoy each others company,.it is so hard but believe me with the proper help ,she will get better.my niece is now married and has three children.god bless

well let me start off saying when i was younger i had anorexia nervosa and these answers are answers from my experience not the facts

1*i would take the hunger pains as actuall pains and make myself believe my stomach hurt like i was going to puke and after about an hour it would go away. then after like a day or two of that my stomach would for real start to hurt and then i wouldnt want to eat anymore

2*i was kind of ona diet like that and after about a month i lost 10 pounds (i was 100lbs)\

3* well it depends on how much weight she lost if it is very noticible that she lost a lot of weight yes you should just to make sure everything is ok. also get her to councling!! thats what stopped me!!
