My mom always asked me. If your friends all jumped off a bridge would you? Unfortunately, for many who joined the Harry potter phenomena, they now have to deal with there sore bums and minnow filled britches.
... and we have to listen to them discuss it!

Twilight is not extra conventional than Harry Potter! Harry Potter has bought extra beneficial than 375 million copies and been translated into over 60 languages - info that Twilight will by no skill attain. Harry Potter is larger than Twilight and it consistently would be. there is not any question in any respect of this is larger or extra conventional. Harry Potter is so some distance out of Twilight's class that it fairly is little need even attempting to evaluate them!

If you tried reading the book maybe you'd see "what's with it" as you put it.
Sometimes you think something is really stupid/you won't like it etc but then you give them a go and discover what other people like so much about it. There are loads of movies for instance that I watched only because everyone kept going on about them and I thought "what's the big deal?"" and watched just so I would have an informed opinion...and often they turned out to be great! It's easy to say something's overestimated or hyped-up too much but if you haven't even seen for yourself what all the fuss is about, well then your opinion isn't worth anything.
Think about it: it's like you tell someone where you live and they say "Oh that's a HORRIBLE place" and you ask them "Have you ever been there?" and they say "No and I don't plan to." What would you think of them?
Why don't you try reading something (apparently there are loads of places even on the internet where you can read the books without buying them) at least then you can say "I've read it, and I hated it". It would sound less silly. I'm not judging you, it's just some advice! :)

You really can't challenge it unless you've read it. I thought it was a stupid phenomenon until I decided one day seven years ago that I might as well just read it so then I could at least know for sure that it was a terrible book.
But I was delightfully surprised.
It was an amazing book.
Most people think it's terrible because they haven't read it and they think it's just a children's fantasy novel.
But it's so much more.
There's philosophy, science, drama, humor, action and almost everything that anyone could want from a book.
And it's based on good vs. evil.
It shows the gray areas of life, how the wicked are sometimes good and the good are not always so.
You are doing yourself a great disservice by not reading at least one book.
At least pick the first one up and read a hundred pages.
It won't take you long, and if you're not sucked in by then, you're one of the few that aren't.

I tried the 1st book--wasn't my thing, even though I do enjoy good fantasy. Haven't cared about any of the others, though I know fans. Also haven't bothered with the movies. (affecting a 70s drawl) Just not my thing, man...
I am however sick of the hype around book 7. As soon as I can find out who's finished it, I'll just ask the burning question: did Harry buy the farm? They'll tell me, and that'll be that for me.

Who doesn't LOVE HARRY POTTER? I don't think I know anyone who doesn't read the books. I've just started to read the last book, because my entire family fought over who could read it first! [I won second place]. I enjoy them mainly because it's a book that everyone reads so you don't feel like a total loser reading it. I play tons of sports and have great friends, and we all read the book, along with the entire communtiy!

Eh.. I don't see what's so great about it either. I did try reading one of the books but I couldn't get into it. But even though I don't like it, I have to give credit to JK Rowling - her books got so many kids to read! Reading is always a good thing, no matter what your subject material is. =)

The books are really quite good, even though the first few are a bit childish. They are very complex, much more so than the movies.
