How to get wireless internet?

I have bought a new laptop and want to knnow the steps how can I get a wireless internet connection at my apartment.

First you need to have an Internet Service through either a phone company (DSL) or cable tv internet CATV, satellite (DirecTV or Dish offers these). An alternative is cellular internet through ATT or Sprint or Verizon.

If you go with the first choice, you procure a wireless router and then configure it for wireless communication as the wireless router maker's manual directs you.

If you go with cellular, you need a pcmcia cellular card from the service provider. It also needs configuration but this is pretty much done by the provider.

How to get wireless internet connection at your apartment??

Well first, do you have an internet connection, and you already have a modem hooked up to a desktop computer?? If so, then you need to buy a wireless router first. That will enable you to wirelessly broadcast your internet signal wirelessly. Now, I am assuming that your new laptop has wireless capability built in. If not, you'll have to get a wireless card.


Or is it the case that your apartment building told you THEY have wireless internet, and you can use it..all you have to do
open your wireless card software, and you will see what networks are available. There might be some additional settings or passwords your need, and you would get those from your apartment manager.

If you are just hoping to pick up your neighbours internet connection, without paying, well that's great, but remember you are actually stealing in that case. There is a good chance that your neighbor set up a password on their router to prevent other people from accessing it.

you probably already have most of the things needed to use wireless internet. you obviously need an internet connection, which i'm sure you already have. being that you have a new laptop, most, if not all laptops now have wireless built in already. so the last thing you will need is a wireless router, vs. a router that just does hard-wire. you can get a wireless router for real cheap these days, $30 will get you a decent wireless router.
