The LA Galaxy are desperate and crazy for paying that kind of money to a athelete, for a sport the majority of Americans can care less about. You can't make Americans like a sport, they think sucks and takes too long to score.

News Flash..... Los Angeles doesn't have a Real Football team, what makes them believe on man, will make people in LA, start liking soccer. The only ones that watch soccer are euro's and hispanics.

don't want to sound redundant with the rest of the forum posters but i have to in order to make my point.

2 weeks ago the U.S. found out beckham was being given 250 million to play for the galaxy. WRONG

Galaxy is paying him 5.5 mill a year to play for them.

Fifa just signed him for LIFE for the majority of the rest of that money.

Now let's do the math, 5.5 mill a year is still a hell of alot considering it's coming from a team in a league that is supposedly vanishing to nothing right?

The galaxy just reported on sunday that they have already made 25 million dollars in REVENUE from beckhams arrival.

In two weeks they have already almost made their entire investment back that is supposed to be a 5 year deal.

So the answer to your question is this.
Yes.

and i think that ever MLS team should have paid for a portion of that contract considering the entire league is getting almost the same exposure.

First he not getting all that money from one team and second Yes because the fact is Americans still don't know anything about Futbol so they will pay to see a washed up Beckham. LA Galaxy and MLS will make tones of money from endorsements

its not 260 million, its 250! plus his annual base salary is 5 million... so the rest of it is not guaranteed! do your homework! plus it is great having beckham here - selling 100 dollar jerseys, packing the home depot center, the media frenzy, etc. Not only people in LA are feeling the mania but also MLS as a whole is gaining revenue from this deal. Away games against the Galaxy are selling out! Also lots of people watch soccer who arent euro or hispanic, especially in California. Siga David Beckham!

Beckham isn't worth 5 million let alone that.
If crazy Americans want to pay it, then thats there look out. i for one don't give a rats Ar se if america never get the sport. I hate Baseball and Gridiron, bet your really gonna lose sleep over that?

Yes, he is...He is a very popular player and he should drive people to the stadiums. Also, other players are now interested in the MLS. Next year, Shevchenko should be coming to the MLS as well..
