A little help, please.
This was a mid-80's movie about a guy who is trying to kill a giant rat in his house. He gets totally obsessed with this fight, eventually taking leave from work. I remember a scene where he was wearing a baseball catcher's uniform, and had a bat which he had driven a lot of nails through. I think it was supposed to be a horror/thriller.

...I'm pretty sure that you're talking about the 1983 suspense shocker, "Of Unknown Origin", which starred Peter Weller, who went on to do "Buckaroo Banzai", and the "Robocop" film series.

Well, I can guarantee it is not Willard. (Just to clear it up).. I have watched Both the remake and the original.. (as well as Ben, the sequal to the original).. and he does not leave his job to kill the rat(s).. He does go a bit crazy, but no baseball catcher uniform.. no bat with nails in it.. etc.. Sorry I can't be more help, but I can at least take out this as an option.
