I would say that murder becomes assination when a higher authority authorizes it - usually a government. In this case, the same act that is illegal is made legal.

Murder is a planned killing, you planned to kill another person before you actually did the deed. You can't murder and Assinate someone at the same time it's either murder or Assination.

MURDER - the killing of another human being , committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder).
OR to kill or slaughter inhumanly or barbarously.
ASSINATION - Assassination is the murder of an individual; usually a political or famous figure. An added distinction between assassination and other forms of killing is that an assassin usually has an ideological or political motivation, though many assassins (especially those who are not part of an organised movement) also show elements of insanity. Other motivations may be money (as in the case of a contract killing), revenge, or as a military operation.

Plz note that : all assasinations are murders but not all muders are assasinationz

Assassination is ordered by someone else and it is carried out by a professional with no interest in the killing beyond it being a job.

Assination is probably the process you make yourself look an *** (with awful spelling for example)

According to dictionaries, assassination is the murder of a political or religious figure. But people use the word "assassination" for the murder of any reasonably powerful/popular person. For example, John Lennon.

Murder becomes assination when a hitman or organised source eg Mafia, Gv. carry it out. You do not have to be important, just hated enough!

They are exactly the same thing. No (democratic) government could admit that assassinations (check the spelling) are carried out on their behalf. They have to have 'plausible deniability'. I have no doubt that some countries conduct assassinations via diplomatic and mercenary channels. I think your question is more linked to how the media describe the death.

Blimey - an actual interesting question for once!!

The word assassination has been misused by the media a lot.

An assassination implies that the killing was ordered and therefore often paid for (often by a government - mentioning no names as I don't want a violation!) and also that it was a remote killing rather than a personal one.

When it is perpetrated for some sort of political/ideological motive. Usually with some sort of gain or outcome involved eg. killing an opposing leader to get in power. Anyone, no matter how unimportant can be assassinated.
