Boot your computer in safe mode....This can be done my repeatedly pressing F8 after the power button is pressed.
This should let you start windows, however it is only for debugging and won't be very functional for running programs.
If you have Windows XP the next easiest step to do is go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
In the System Restore Wizard you will see an option to "Restore my computer to an earlier time" the click Next >
Then select a date on the calendar that is in BOLD Blue, when you recall that your computer was operating well, then click Next > and Restore....
This will close windows and perform the restore and roll back any windows drivers or software that could be causing a boot failure with your computer. The computer should then automatically restart and before it reaches the desktop page you should be prompted with a message indicating whether or not the restore was a success and if you would like to keep the computer this way or choose a different restore point.
Hope this helps you out.

u r either facing a windows operating system(os) problem or a memory card problem(hardware problem),
if ur computer starts in safe mode and starts windows normally then ur windows is ok,if not then u'll have to "reformat" ur computer, this will erase all data from ur computer (sorry abt that),u can do this by loading ur (os) cd.
howerver if ur computer starts in safe mode then u'll have change the memory card on the computer,(by memory card i DO NOT mean the hard disk, memory card is either 64 mb,128mb,256mb,512mb,1gb,2,gb and so on.u will need to buy a new memory card higher the better and replace ur existing one,
if u cant do all this plzz call someone experienced.
gud luck

Emachines has been known to use faulty hardware to lower prices. I had an emachines for 5 years though before my power supply just stoped working, if you bought the computer a month ago you are probably still under warranty so you can probably send it in to have some hardware replaced

When your computer is turned off, unplug it from the electrical outlet for a few minutes. Then plug it back in and turn back on. This might solve the problem.
