Then it is best to just make the most of it anyway. Live life to the fullest, and we can't be dissapointed - the worst case scenario is that when we realise it was a joke we feel a little stupid. If you don't make the most of it, however, and then realise it wasn't a joke, it will be a huge regret.

Life is a joke to a lot of people. ;-)
Joke or not, lots of people don't get it.
One of my favorite bands has a song that includes the line, referring to people wondering about life and the universe...: "They looked at the stars, and the entire universe smiled back and said nothing."
I can't say I believe in any real organized religion. But sometimes I do sort of feel like the universe itself is watching as we scurry along, clueless.
"Awww, aren't they cute, silly humans." "Well, they were cute. They've become a horrible disgrace to the spark of life itself. Horrible, selfish, narrow minded, limited, violent, unkind, greedy, angry creatures of destruction and pain... All the potential to be explored and enjoyed. All the potential for happyness and wisdom... Wasted in a flash, scrambling to survive."

Sometimes life is a joke. If you don't have a sense of humor, then you'll just be miserable. Take things lightly. You'll be a lot happier in the long run. I promise.
