The the grass has ALOT more friction than the snow. That machine was designed for use on the snow/ice. Most of the weight is in the front of the sled, and with the skis being 40" long, there is alot of resistance.

I would rebuild the primary clutch (one on the engine) replacing the weights and spring. heck to be sure the moveable sheave moves freely and does not bind.

On the secondary clutch (one opposite the primary), replace the spring, moveable sheave bushing and the slider buttons. Also, be sure the moveable sheave moves freely.

Lift the back of the sled and be sure the track moves freely and that none of the idler wheel bearings move freely.

Make sure the belt is the one recommended for that machine, (0627-012). Check the center to center distances on the clutches along with the clutch offset. If any either of these distances are not to specs., the machine will struggle to move efficiently.

Check the clutch rollers, weights and springs.
Score up the clutch sheaves with scotch brite.
The belt might be slipping.
I haven't seen one of those things in a while.
Could the motor, or track drive have shifted?
