I'm a college student who just returned from a year abroad in Europe to a busy summer job working at a camp, teaching swimming and gymnastics lessons. I work from 8-5:30 most days, and get the weekends off. I've been noticing that I've been getting pretty bad headaches at work lately and I don't know whether it's due to being out in the sun all time and getting dehydrated (I always keep a water bottle with me and try to drink a lot, but being out in the sun, I'm always dehydrated at the end of the day) - or something else, as I've also been feeling lightheaded and tired lately. Even on my days off, I've been lightheaded only an hour or two after a snack or meal. On work days, I eat breakfast at 6:30, and lunch at 12. If I don't have a snack in between, I start to go downhill in the day and feel lightheaded before lunch and get bad headaches in the afternoon.

Is this normal, or should I worry? I'm about 5'3" and about 150, so about 15 pounds over ideal weight.

Perhaps you are hypoglycemic. If so, moving to 6 small meals / day (and reducing sugar intake as much as possible) may help considerably. Make sure your mini meals are a good balance of carbs and protein. Avoid sugar laden drinks. These "crashes" you are experiencing between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner may well be blood sugar crashes. Being vigilant about a mini meal BETWEEN your regular meals may eliminate your problem entirely.

Best of luck,

First of all, see your doctor with these symptoms.

You might have an inner ear infection or swimmers ear.

You really need to have snacks especially when you eat breakfast so early. drink lots of water. Keep a bottle with you always. Get some gaitor aid to help replace the electrolyts that you lose while being outside in the sun. For snacks have something like a thing of string cheese & half an apple.
Or some milk and a grahm cracker. Protien & some carbs.
Banannas are good to eat as a snack with a little bit of peanut butter.

You might need your blood sugar checked. Also being out of the country there might be something you have caught.
Or, you just might be exhausted.

Get to your doctor and start having healthy snacks between lunch and dinner and also 2 hours before bedtime. If this feels like too many calories, then eat a smaller portion at lunch and dinner. Please don't starve yourself, it slows down your bodies metabolizm.

Don't forget you water bottle when you go to work.

You are putting in a lot of work - those are long days. It is normal to need a snack in between as your work is physically demanding.
Make sure the foot you eat is high in protein and fibre, it will keep you going for longer. Snack on nuts and yoghurt - they will help.
Also - as well as visiting your doctor go and see a chiropractor - the bones in your spine may be out of line and causing you to feel sore and fatigued, it may also be the source of your headaches.

Explain this to your doc and they will run blood tests etc to make sure it is not serious- could be low blood pressure or just that your sugar levels are low at certain times - the doc will give you ways to clear that up- for some it is lifesavers or others if too high is small frequent meals - go to the doc first!!! You only have one beautiful body so take care of it!!!

A woman who volunteered to enter a contest to see who drank the most water died. She and the other entrants complained of intense head pain. Are you drinking too much water?? There are other medical things that cause lightheadedness like low blood pressure, anemia, and salt being removed from your body by any means, meds or water, I had this. Ended up in ER.
