well, it doesnt matter whether your in first class or economy class, but wateva. it takes about 13 hrs from DC to tokyo, so at least 8 hrs from CA

Cali to Tokyo is about 10-11 hrs. Tokyo to Cali is about 8-9 hrs. Changes because Cali to Tokyo is moving against the wind. Of course these times will differ depending on where in California you're talking about. Obviously if it's not a direct flight it'll take longer. The above approximate is LA to Tokyo direct. I think Frisco to Tokyo is about the same as well. Ah Ami san, I stand to be corrected. She is right of course. Just because it is called a "direct flight" doesn't mean it won't stop at different locations on the way. Which of course will take more time than a non-stop.

The actual flight time is about 11 hours. Depending on security issues, delays, cancellations, weather issues and whatnot you will probably spend between 13 - 15 hours in transit.
Don't forget to pack your travel kit!
