I can only have c-section and my husband and I are trying to have another baby. We are wondering if anyone knew if maybe my daughter could join us in the delivery room while I have a c-section.

look, I don't need any smart @ss comments. My family doesn't live nearby nor does his, and we wouldn't have anyone to watch her.

I wouldn't think so. I am sure if you talked to the hospital they could come up with a good plan with you and your huband. Maybe a nurse can keep an eye while you child stays in your hospital room. Or maybe they can have a hospital volunteer stay with your child.

No, not in my experience. The C-Section, while very safe and routine, still comes with risk, like any surgery. They don't allow children in there for 3 reasons, I believe...

1. Sterility. Small kids, even your own, can be dangerous to you and the baby when you are so vulnerable. The chance the child may be incubating chicken pox, be a strep carrier, or have a cold, is a risk to the sterility of the operating room and your and the new baby's overall health.

2. C-Sections look pretty gruesome, lol. If the child misbehaves at all, as most children do, and comes around to get a look at what is happening, it can be traumatic for the child...your body is open pretty wide. Also, the child cannot be entrusted not to grab instruments, run into things, or get scared and panic.

3. If something does go wrong, even something minor, the doctors need to have all the space that is available to them, and the most sterile environment as possible. An emergency situation could cause a child to panic, and/or the child could accidentally get in the doctor's way.

The husband, who is allowed in the surgery room with you, is dressed from head to toe in sterile hospital gear, and he is given specific instructions on how to act, and where to stand. A child cannot follow these rules as closely and so therefore cannot be in the room. A C-Section, while routine, is still a major surgery.

I would check with the hospital you plan on delivering your baby at for a definite answer. My best guess would be no they aren't allowed. From what my doctor tells me (we are due for our second this year) for c-sections only the spouse/father is allowed in the room with you, even under emergency operation conditions. If the hospital does allow it, I would then recommend that you and your husband ask your daughter if she would like to be there and let her know what she will be watching. She may decided she would rather wait to see the baby. Please consider first that it is a major operation either way and if, forbid, something goes wrong she will be there to see it first hand.

I don't believe its allowed. It would be to traumatic for a child to see their mother under bright lights, and doctors, and so many machines, and sharp instruments. No matter how much you prepare your child, this would be too scary for one to endure. I'm a military wife, and we had no one for our children when I delivered my 3rd, we had to bring them with us when we went to the hospital. The nursing staff set them up in an empty room and had nurses look in after them. just be prepared to pay for an extra room out of pocket.
Look into hiring a sitter. Call your local unemployment division if they have any sitters avail, or call a sitting agency. Either way, having an extra pair of hands around for a bit would be a godsend especially after a c-section.
Good luck, and god bless.

I have only heard them allowing one other adult in during the surgery. At the hospital where my daughter was born via c-section 2 weeks ago, they would not let my husband bring a camera or video camera. But it wouldn't hurt to ask your OB on your next visit.

Nope they cannot. they can be with you till you go in and then when you come out, but, they cannot be in there. Some children if old enough they can really get freaked out with all the lights and noise and what they might see. Plus, they would have to be scrubbed in and such. IT is better for the little one to stay in the waiting room or the room that you will return too. GOOD LUCK!!!

As a general rule they only allow one other person in the delivery room when its a c section...I am pretty sure that this person must be of 18yrs or a spouse.....If you need to know your hospitals policy you should call them and talk to the maternity ward...they can give you their rules!

It really depends on the Dr. and the hospital. I have a friend which was llowed to do that. But when I had my second child I was not able to because of hospital policies. Check with yours u might be lucky! God bless you and your baby, Best of Luck!
(I know a lot of people might be against this, but it really depends on how mature the child is. You are the parent and Im sure that you know if its right or not)

nope absolutely not,the operating room is a sterile environment and no place for a child. Children have a hard enought ime sitting down and there should be no need for your child in the operating room especially if something does go wrong. No to mention a child in there could distract the nurses and doctors from what they are doing.

Most hospitals don't allow children in the room when c-sections are performed. Usually, it's just the woman's significant other if the epidural is successful (if they have to put you completely under anesthesia, even your significant other isn't permitted in the room).
