I have 83,000 miles on it. Honda recalled the transmission on my car model. One day to the next it died. Should honda pay for my car rental fees? I paid $400.00 for 7 days.

The transmission on the 2000 and 2001 Accord had two problems that Honda has acknowledged are caused by the design of separate parts and seals inside the transmission. Only a small percentage of the transmissions had one problem or the other but Honda is a very customer focused company and they felt a responsibility not to penalize any Honda owner who would experience either problem down the road. Honda did not "recall" the transmissions but rather they extended the warranty on them to 7 years or 100,000 miles in the event you were one of the owners who had a problem with the transmission.
Honda replaces the transmissions with factory remanufactured transmissions (they re-use the outer shell and put all new parts inside so they have to call them 'remanufactured') and because of the expense of the replacement and their concern that you not have another problem with the transmission, the quality control process on the remanufactured transmission is much more rigorous than the typical Honda quality control.
As long as the transmission was installed properly and the hydraulic system flushed out as prescribed by Honda, the new transmission will outlast the car. I am not aware of any failures of the new transmissions that use the redesigned parts. I have heard of failures related to improper installation or not following the proper procedures but those occured well in the past and don't seem to be an issue as dealers have gotten up to speed on the replacement program.
If it were my car I would have every confidence that the replaced transmission will last the life of the car.

Assuming you've had the car since you bought the 2001 new, it should last you as long as you own the car.
I'm driving a 1991 Geo prizm, with over 220K miles on it, and it's still the original auto tranny in it.
Either you got suckered to get a new one, or there was a major defect in it somehow to break it, especially if it is a Honda. It should last you for decades.
One sure thing to make sure a transmission lasts is to change the tranny fluids regularly. Once a year is a good suggestion, even tho' the manual may say just every few years. Every 20,000 miles is an extremely good mileage for changing, but every 50,000 is probably just fine for normal use of a car.
But consider the cost of changing fluid once a year, compared to having paid for a brand new transmission when it should have gone easily 10 more years!!!

If you bought the car used, then you probably got stuck with a bad tranny, and the cost of the repair. But now, that new tranny should last even your kids learning to drive in that car!!!

I drive a 1996 Honda Accord Lx and it has a recall on that model make about the TRANSMISSION and my car is the the shop for the TRANSMISSION and i only had my car for 3 1/2 weeks i think u should make then pay

It really depends on what yr the car was made, how well it's maintained and how you drive the vehicle but they can last many many miles and for the life the vehicle but if it's the early 2000 models they don't last long. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way the emissions laws are quite strict in Japan meaning they scrap their vehicles around 100,000 kms and they ship/sell the transmissions/engines that have been fully tested around the world for fair prices such as 400-600 bucks so keep that in mind.

If you really take care of it -- I'm talking changing the oil every 5000 miles......... with regular service checks:
200,000 to 300,000 ........ no kidding!!!

If you keep it maintained, it should get 300,000+ miles.
