did anyone read the planets by Dava Sobel?

I had to read this book for college. It is really great.

No...but if you say it's really good then I'll probably pick it up. I'm reading The Whole Shebang right now. It primarily talks about the Cosmic Microwave Background and the expansion of the universe but I recommend it to advanced readers. Have fun!
