My opinion would be based on how old your friend is. Small kids don't need to see violence at such a young age. However, your friend's mom is out of her head completely if she won't ket him play video games because they have violence in them. If kids today want to see violence, all they have to do is cut on CNN for a few minutes. That's the problem with parents today. Instead of explaining to kids the difference between video games/movies/TV shows and real life, they cut out everything that has to do with it and drop the subject completely. And people wonder what's wrong with today's youth. Too many parents don't care anymore.

I don't have any real sitations to show you, but I did have to debate this in my English class a couple years ago.

Scientists have proven that there is no corralation between playing violent video games and being violent. I played Grand Theft auto and many other mature video games, and I'm not violent. I think that it comes down to the parents making sure their kids know that they're just games, not a basis for how you should live your life.

Most parents, in my opinion, who pass off the actions of their children by blaming them on video games and television are forgetting that they have the responsibility to make sure their kids understand that those things aren't real or at least not the right way to act.

Then again, if he IS underage, technically he shouldn't be playing them.

My personal experience is that I will never try anything that I do in video games. I think that is mostly due to the fact that I was taught that some things are wrong in real life.

It sounds like your friend has been taught similar morals, because his mom was keeping him from the violent games, and he is less likely to re-enact those games.

I hate to say it, but there is proof that violent video games and movies have negative effects on people. "Studies show" that people who play violent games or watch violent movies are more likely to (and do) respond more agressively than those who don't. I did a report on the affects of violence and children, and there is a lot of evidence.... sorry, but mom correct. You can check out candystand.com for clean, fun games.

Sounds like he better listen to his mom. The fighting games can be very violent. It is up to his parent to control what he watches and plays

If the violence is offending, don't play the game-there's other "G" rated non-violent games out there.

well they have ratings. If it has mature ratings and your friend is not old enough, then he can't prove it. Like really, would you let a 5 year old watch a rated R movie??
