I dont know if ibroprofen is good or not to take while pregnant. I have terrible headaches during work and feel I need to take some type of tylenol, but don't want to risk it for the baby. So what is safe and wont harm the baby?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and recently got over a 6 day monster headache. I have had 2 miscarriages in the past so needless to say I am extremely cautious. On the 6th day of my headache, I broke down and called my doctor. She couldn't believe that I had gone 6 days without taking Tylenol. I had heard Tylenol was ok to take but still chose to be careful. Once my high risk OB assured me Tylenol was completely OK at any stage in pregnancy, I took 2 regular strength capsules. My headache went away within 20 minutes, and from that point on I have been much more relaxed. If it makes you feel better, give your doc a call and ask. Good luck!!!

When I was pregnant the doctor said I could only take Tylenol. I had a lot of headaches when pregnant too due to the hormones. Hope you're feeling better soon and the headaches go away.

Tylenol is very safe you can take that. But any type of ibroprofen is not safe at all. It is also safe to take benedryl if you have such a horrible headache that can help make you sleepy so you could rest

Tylenol, and my doctor perscribed me lortab at 12 weeks for bad migraines. The lortab actually made my headaches worse. If you can, don't take anything. If you take tylenol on a regular basis for a headache then skip a day or so, it will cause you to get a headache. Proven medical fact.

Tylenol is safe throughout pregnancy- I took it for migraines during 2 pregnancies. You can take ibuprofen only until 30 weeks. If you have bad migraines, your doctor can write you a prescription for Tylenol with Codine with is stronger than regular tylenol.

It shouldn't hurt your baby this once, but I would avoid using it again. Aspirin is a big no during pregnancy, especially since it can increase your risk of hemorrhage. Call your doctor and see what he/she recommends. When I talked to a neurologist I work with about migraines, he told me that in most cases he will not medicate a patient for migraines during pregnancy because most of the migraine medications constrict blood vessels which decrease the amount of blood to the placenta. Your doctor may be able to give you a pain medication that does not do this, but you have to ask for it. Otherwise, the only other recommendation I have is an ice pack and lying down in a dark, quite room. Sleep also helps.

Acetaminophen is safe to take as directed on the label, but most other headache medications — such as aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as most prescription migraine drugs — aren't recommended for pregnant women. Consult your practitioner about which medications you can take if you're prone to severe migraines. If you have persistent headaches that are effecting your daily life, your doctor can help you w/ a prescription.

Try to avoid things that may trigger your headaches, such as strong odors, bright lights, loud noises, or excessive heat. For a tension headache, apply a warm or cool compress to your forehead or the base of your skull. Cold compresses tend to work best for migraines. For some migraine sufferers, a cold shower brings some fast — if temporary — relief. If you can't take a shower, splash some cool water on your face. A warm shower or bath can be soothing for tension headaches. To prevent low blood sugar (a common headache trigger), eat smaller, more frequent meals. If you're on the go, keep some snacks (crackers, fruit, yogurt) within reach. Avoid straight sugar, like candy, which can cause your blood sugar to spike and crash.

And don't forget to drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated as well. Sip water slowly if you have a migraine and have vomited. Try to make time for naps in your day. If you're having a migraine, try to sleep it off in a quiet, dark room.
