Toddlers introduced to homosexuality?

Question

An article I found at an online news site revealed that some public schools have begun introducing books into early elementary school curriculums that include homosexual behavior (such as same-sex parenthood and mild homosexual romance).

Examples:
A fairy tale called "King & King" about a King who turns down 3 princesses, but falls in love with and marries one of their brothers.

A story called "Spacegirl Pukes" is about a girl who gets sick before she takes a trip to space and is nersed back to health by her two mothers.

I wonder what the general reaction is among all of you at Yahoo! Answers? What do you think about this?

If I had children I would rather teach them about those things on my own. While it's great that they're being openmindedhe school system isn't the most wholesome place and they might distort things...What if the teacher doesn't like gays? How would they read a story to them and theach them the moral of it? That lesson will only be as effective as the teacher wants it to be.

I'm all for it as long as it's in the right context. But it should not be forced on every child because there are still some families who are down home christian and don't want that being taught to their children and that has to be respected.

I think the concept of introducing that subject matter is fine....but I don't know if I would appreciate my *toddler* learning about that from someone else.
That's almost like the sex talk. I would rather handle that myself. That way, my child could ask a ton of questions and I would know how they are being answered.
I don't have children, but someday I will and I just think that some things are handled better by the parents. I do belive that children should be taught tolerance and to have respect for others, but at that age....wow. I think that's a little young.

I hope parents would not take this corruption of tender minds lying down. Get parents together and protest. Get the books off the shelf or the kids out of the school. Homeschooling is another option. Once my third grader came home with a book written by Judy Blume. Luckily I happened to leaf through it and found references to Playboymag, girls and boys playing 'spin the bottle' and having their first kiss in a closet, etc. I complained to the librarian who got me into a meeting with the Principal. They agreed with me but didnt get the book off the shelf. They did transfer the book to the fifth grade though (which is equally bad). The librarian assured me that none of Judy Blume's books would be issued to my kid. That was the best I could do at the time, though I could have pursued the matter further.

it will be shown that gay tendancey is a genetic marker decrease than maximum circumstances and effects a proportion of all races. it incredibly is the lifestyle that the gay is enveloped in which will are awaiting "popping out" and admition. evidence is i've got understand homosexuals that dislike their selection yet locate it widespread, organic, no early existence adventure or trauma that led to it. Your born mutually with your selection and could be motivated to alter by society, whether, you're who you're. take a glance at those that chanced on faith and that they admit it did no longer help to alter them.

I think it's kinda good...it might make the kid in the class with two mom's or two dad's happy, knowing that he isn't alone...or that they are reading a book that is like his family. It seems pretty controversial though. I wonder if the school had to let the parents know that they are reading these books to their kids. But, on the other hand, someone always has a problem with something.

thats interesting and i feel a good move on part of the government. and it shows how much more homosexuality is acceptable these days which is by all means a good thing. if your telling kids from a young age its 'wrong' 'shameful' what ever doesn't matter, and they find out/become gay (again doesn't matter) then they are going to be more confused because they have these feelings and they think they are wrong and yet they cant stop them so it makes it worse for them, being told what they feel is wrong, thats wrong, if we plant the seed of open mindedness at a young age then we are going in the right direction

The Old and New Testament tells us it is an abomination and no amount of fairytales will change that.

We are told, in black and white, that such a lifestyle is not acceptable to God and those choosing same will not inherit the kingdom of God. They have no alternative but to make their peace with that.

i think that teaches kids to be tolerant at a young age. I am a firm bleiver that you are born gay or hetro, so the books will not turn anyone. I think they just introduce the ideas and make them normal so that predjucie and hate are not breed for another generation

Our culture is changing (for the better) and I think it's healthy to teach children that there are many different types of families and no longer the standard mom and dad.

What I don't believe in is teaching children about homosexual sex. Like all sex education, I believe it's up to the parents to talk about that with their children when they are mature enough to handle it.
