Are June Bugs & Japanese Beetles the same thing?? Some people have told me they are while others say that they are two completely different insects. Which is it???

I'm talking about the huge, annoying, copper-colored ones that you can hear when they fly around & hit things....and they hurt if they hit you. So are they the same thing??

Also, whats a good tried & true way to get rid of them or severely lessen the amount in the area???

Also, are there any repellants that can be used much like citronella with mosquitoes??? I'm so terrified beyond belief of them (& I don't know why!) that I am rarely able sit outside at night anymore & I'd love to be able to more often!!

For the insecticide fertilizers:

What's the best to use??? How much does the stuff cost?? When's the best time to apply it: day, night, before mowing, after mowing, before watering, after watering??

Completely different genus and species.

June beetle (June bug or scarab beetle) = Cotinus nitida

Japanese beetle = Popillia japonica

They are similar, though. They both spend their larval state in the roots of grasses, feeding on the roots until they emerge as adult beetles. Control of either species can be accomplished with an insecticide fertilizer for lawns. This is available in a granular form at most home improvement centers.

Don't know about repellants. Maybe a big flyswatter (or small tennis racket).
