I am probably going to get a hysterectomy this week and I had a few questions regarding the procedure. I wanted to know how long most people stay in the hospital? I also wanted to know if there is lots of pain cause I am not good with pain at all?? How long is the recovery afterwords cause I work full time as a supervisor in housekeeping?? I am having a hysterectomy after my doctor did 2 D&C's. I have not stopped heavy bleeding in two months and now my hemaglobin is down to 9.4 . I am really dizzy and this past weekend I got really sick as in throwing up. I am thinking these are signs of me getting worse. I already have one son and I am 25 years old. If I want anymore children I can always adopt. If anyone can answer my questions or have any suggestions please let me know.

It depends on how the procedure is done. If it's a THA (total hysterectomy, abdominal) then you can probably count on at least 4 weeks and probably 6 down time and a few more after that before you feel really good. If it's accomplished vaginally, you probably will have 2-4 wks recovery time depending on how quickly you heal. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002915.htm tells you the different kinds. One caveat, if they don't remove your ovaries, remember to get them checked periodically, especially as you get older. Ovarian cancer is the top female cancer killer of women over 55...my mother has had it twice and the six mos of chemo that followed each of her two surgeries. IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING LEFT, GET IT CHECKED! Good luck and God bless.

A hysterectomy is after they take away the uterus. Since a fetus grows within the uterus, there is not any danger you would be pregnant. The cause you're no longer getting your intervals is in view that you don't have any uterus. Periods are whilst the liner if the uterus (blood and tissue) are expelled from the frame.

My hysterectomy wasn't really that painful. I went to work 2 weeks later. Of course, I have a desk job so it really wasn't a problem. I was in the hospital over night. Good luck. 2D
