"What matters is not what church I go to, for that should matter only to me, but what kind of country do I believe in."

I believe in Karma, not as a religious principle, but as a law of physics that has not yet been confirmed scientifically. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, as the saying goes. Religious beliefs are like the opposite of the laws of physics, since they cannot be proven, nor even repeated under control conditions. Honestly, I can't distinguish between religion and superstition, especially in a forum like this, where logic and reason are needed. If people weren't given so much religious indoctrinatrion when they were young and defenseless, they would be more logical and happier. Oh yeah, I'm very liberal.

Hi, Tangerine.
I, too, consider myself a Deist. I acknowledge a God; I just don't get all caught up in "organized religion" and all the symbolism and group recitation.
My parents and grandparents were all good Christian people, helping others whenever the situation arose, but you never saw or heard them thumping their Bibles and quoting scripture. A good Christian does not have to be a charismatic or flamboyant one.
We share part of our bounty with those in need in our community and don't incessantly complain about the poor or those on welfare.

The problem with Republicans is that they feel this country should be run on the basis of religious belief. That their most important reason for electing someone is that they are loudly religious and pro-life. Neither of which has a thing to do with running a country. This country was based on different beliefs and different people. Liberty for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not just religious bobble heads. I'm catholic but it has no basis for what person I would choose to run this country. Tolerance for all. Extremists of any kind better tone it down or you will become extinct.

I'm a non-practicing atheist.
Meaning I'm too lazy to do away with the trappings of the religion I was born into (Christianity), such as the holidays. In my opinion however, professing a belief in a Deity is simply foolish, what makes our "god" any different than the gods of the ancient Romans or the tribal peoples of Africa or America for that matter? Nothing, its just another excuse people use to justify their existence.

To me this question is like asking a person if they beat their wife today. The very question infers a negative image right from the "git go"
With respect,I urge all liberals NOT to answer and I do so simply because I am absolutely fed up of liberals having to prove that they are moral/ethical beings .
I have bloody NOTHING to prove to any moralizing, demonizing, vilifying holier-than-thou stinking monumental hypocritical conservative from Vitters to Barr to Gingrich to Livingston and a thousand more filthy lying hypocrites.
In fact studies show clearly that based upon many measures such as rates divorce, sexually transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancies, violent crime rates, hand gun deaths etc. the South (which is a bastion of conservatism in particular the repulsively hypocritical Christian fundies ) has most of the highest rates of these IMMORAL, UN-FAMILY values.
Liberals have NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING to learn about morality ,ethics and family values from the war mongering conservatives who have sent US soldiers to Iraq to die in an ILLEGAL war of choice that is based upon a pack of filthy stinking UN-CHRISTIAN ,IMMORAL LIES that has resulted in the slaughter of over 400,000 INNOCENT Iraqis.
For heaven sakes LIBERALS ,STOP playing defensive with these RELATIVELY vile immoral conservative HYPOCRITES.

Organized religion is corrupt (as is everything touching on politics)...but I do believe there is a God...
I don't know why the separation of Church and State is such an impossibility...

I think our founding fathers were wise to try to keep a separation of state and state. Religious views should have nothing to do with political views.

I doesn't make much difference as liberals hold many different religious views and besides, it is just one more way for neocons to evade the issue with spurious personal attacks.
Agnostic if you must know.

Episcopalian.
I used to belong to a very conservative church. They treated me so badly I nearly turned to Atheism. It was a left-wing Episcopal church that convinced me to continue to believe in Christ.
