according to planned parenthoods financial statements they received $300 million of federal, state and local tax money last year. The stipulation is they cant use the money for abortion however its nothing but a semantics and book keeping argument in that if they didnt have that tax payers money for infrastructure they would have to come up with that money some other way to continue to be the largest abortion performing agency. This instance alone shows its not more taxes they need to take, its less spending they need to employ.

This presumes that taxes and government spending are going on without your consent. Not true. You live in this country, you vote in this country, you enjoy the benefits of this country. We are a Representative democracy (A Republic) that has at it's core an intent to balance individual liberty and the collective good.

So it is right, that the majority of Americans embrace the concept of doing good collectively and elect a government that puts that into action. You may be in the minority and consider it a trampling of your rights. But you have a right to dissent, you have a right to work for change, and you have a right to pick up and leave. But unless you do pick and leave you are consenting to live under the system we have.

That's not what's happening, dear John. We all live in a country that has a government. The government collects money from each of us to spend on the common good. That would include defense, the fire department, the postal service, the libraries, the highways, the national parks, unnecessary wars, environmental cleanup, schools, etc. Everyone contributes and everyone benefits. People who don't have children pay taxes, and some of their taxes go to schools, but they use the highways. People who aren't old enough to be on Medicare pay taxes, and some of their taxes go to Medicare, but their children use the schools. See how it works?

Is it right for me to pay taxes so you will have a fire department that shows up when your house is on fire? After all, MY house is not on fire.

[It's not without your consent. You vote, your representative is supposed to represent you, and therefore you gave consent. That's the way our government works.]

No, it's not. But the examples you give are not "without consent".

The examples you give are of govt programs, established by elected officials, who the people voted for.

So, given that Congress is empowered under the Constitution to collect taxes and to allocate spending -- it's not being done without consent. Being a citizen or legal resident alien, and having an income, is consent to govt activity.

That being said, I personally oppose almost all forms of aid that you mention. That doesn't make your description accurate.

What is funny is the only difference between an extortionist and the tax collector is the punishment for not paying.

The extortionist breaks your legs or burns down your store.

The tax collector throws you in prison to get bufued by bubba.

I don't agree with it, but as long as you can convince enough people that they are not generous enough on their own, and nor are other people so, the government must step in and do it for them. Funny thing is you look at where the money for charity is actually coming from and it's not blue states :)

If you are talking about money they earned by their legal work, then no. If you are talking about the benefits and perks that we get as Americans, then it depends. Nothing is guaranteed whether it be government aid or employee perks. That's just part of life. Take it or leave it.

No, it is better to let the poor and elderly starve and freeze to death. That would be the Christian thing to do.
