I have a 1994 Chevy 3/4 ton. It was overheating, so I had the thermostat and water pump replaced. It ran good for 2 days, then the temperature needle started going all over the place. A friend said it is probably a bad thermostat. Is it that or could it be something else?

Drain a little coolant from the radiator[enough to see the tubes] If there are white deposits growing on the tubes, then it's time for a new rad. If OK then install a 180º F Thermostat. If thermostat appears to be operating normally, then purchase a magnetic base thermometer & attach it the engine block. Run the engine until gauge reads high. Check the the temp on the block. May be the temp. sender has failed.

Does your truck overheat once you're using? it is going to no longer.. gentle hose regularly skill there is air interior the equipment or now bypass of water. replace the thermostat and slowly fill up the coolant equipment start up the truck up seek for leaks, permit the truck run at idle for style of three-5 minutes, close the truck off, slowly open the radiator cap (rag over it) to guard your self, you ought to hear air escaping out of the equipment. do away with the cap thoroughly suitable up the equipment as needed.

That is one possibility. Is the truck actually running hot, or could it be the sending unit is going bad? I will assume that you do not have a coolant leak with the system, like the heater core or anything. good luck.

if the t stat started fluctuating u may want to check & see if you have coolant in your rad at all. or u may have an air pocket. other than an electrical fault that would be the only other things that would make it fluctuate.
