P.S. I know his throat hurts by the way he coughs and try to clear it, the way I do when my throat hurts. His cry also sounds scratcy and to be honest, I am his mother and I just "know".

My grandson is 3 months old and I wonder how you know your son has a sore throat and how you know it hurts him? I know when my grandson cries, it is a matter of trial and error to figure out what is wrong and we aren't always sure we've come to the right conclusion or he just gets tired of trying to tell us what's wrong! If your son is in pain, he can have infant Tylenol drops if the nurse/doctor has said it is OK and gives you the proper dosage. Do NOT give a baby under the age of 1 honey for any reason. A baby's system has not developed enough to resist the botulism spores that are present in honey. Over the age of 1, honey is fine, although you will occasionally find the recommendation to wait until the age of 2. If your baby has a cold, you will just have to wait it out. The vaporizer by his bed will help keep his nasal passages moist which aids in easier breathing. Saline drops or a homemade salt solution in a baby's nose will help to ease mucous removal. Use the bulb suctioner that came home from the hospital with your baby to suck out the excess mucous. Your baby may want to nurse more often while sick or he may refuse to nurse, both of which are normal. If he refuses nursings, encourage him often to nurse a little bit so he does not dehydrate. You may be able to elevate the legs of his crib so his head is higher than normal or he may prefer to sleep upright on your chest, in his car seat or in his swing until his congestion lessens. It may be wisest to call the nurse back and ask him/her what things you can do to make your baby feel better. Be cautious when accepting advice from people you don't know, it isn't always good advice. ADDED: A 3 month old can not have chicken noodle soup, tea, or popsicles. Do NOT give an infant a lot of water to drink. It is unneccesary and can lead to a dangerous condition called water intoxication which can be deadly. An infant's kidneys are not mature enough to process a lot of water. A baby who is only 3 months old should only be given breast milk and/or formula. All the fluid a baby needs comes from those 2 sources.

Hi,
No Honey!
Anyway, the best thing you can do is offer him Tylenol for the pain. The next thing is to keep his bottles on the cooler side if you can for his throat. If your breastfeeding I have no suggestion except to pump and keep it cooler.
The virus can last up to a week so just try to keep him comfortable. Sometimes the red throat is the beginning of the cold so he may get worse. Runny nose, cough etc.
Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Make certain he is ingesting or nursing adequate. Tylenol youngster's drops can support with the agony. Make certain you don't over-medicate him. Pay cautious awareness to the dosage for his weight. If you may have ANY doubt approximately how so much to provide, ask your pediatrician. You're already making use of a humidifier and nostril drops. There relatively is not a lot more you'll be able to do.

I would give him a little bit of infant tylenol, or motrin for discomfort. Be very careful of the dosage. Do not give honey, as that is not recommended for children under 12 months, (it is linked to botulism). Unfortunately, being that he is so young, all you can try to do is try to make him comfortable! Good luck

DO NOT GIVE YOUR BABY HONEY.
Lots of water... as much as he will drink. That will keep the linings of his throat moist, as well as help flush out the virus.
A bit of infant tylenol or ibuprophen would help, but be very cautious with the dose.

Chicken soup can't hurt him. Pick up a couple pop-sickles. You want to keep him hydrated. No aspirins (Reyes) and don't allow him dairy products as it will promote flem and chest congestion. It won't do any good to try to treat a viral cold whereas if it was a bacterial infection it's a different matter.
