Is legislating morality a good idea? Is this different than when the far right in the U.S. tries to legislate morality in the U.S.?

baby1...what if the morality being legislated in the U.S. was not Christian based? Would you be for it then?

kevin...you say we are able to do what we want in our homes, and I wish it were true. What about sodomy laws, drug laws, and other laws against the personal and non-violent "crimes" in ones own house?

In countries where personal conduct and expression are not constitutionally protected, the current majority is able to impose laws like this.

No, legislating morality is barbaric and primitive -- it says that only one religion is valid, and that the majority is going to ram their beliefs down the throat of everyone, whether they follow that religion or not.

And no, it's not different than what many ultra-conservatives in the US attempt to do.

I will probably get blasted for this but here goes. I believe that cracking down on morality is ok. Killing, raping, stealing, etc. Not only that but infidelity, hateful practices, and many other elements that don't support the human mind and body. We live in a society where almost anything goes. We are able to speak freely, do what we want in our homes, and live whatever lifestyle we choose. That's a lot of freedom right there.

Iran is a hardlined country. They dictate with religion. Over here religion is garbage. I think they have some right ideas. But they also kill needlessly. The right wing doesn't try to tell you how to live life. They tell you there is moral codes and guidelines everyone should follow. Liberals make laws to try and make us "safer". Cell phone laws, cigarette taxation, motorcycle helmets, seatbelt laws.

The whole idea is that we have become an oversexed and angry population. We don't care about others nor do we care about our standards and practices. We get married quickly then divorce making marriage nothing but a sham. We have tons of babies out of wedlock because we can't use protection.

We need a little bit of freedom and a little bit of moral control to make things in life work. Because if we have total freedom there is no reason not to kill, rape, steal, sex, drug, what have you.

All laws are based on morals, so it's definitely not a black and white issue.

Legislating some degree of morality is fine (murder, etc.), like what occurs in the U.S., but legislating it to the extent that it imposes on one's own appearance is a product of the 8th century, and those who support it are archaic and barbaric animals.
