I use a freeware program called CDex. It works great for me. You can find a download link here!

WMP and iTunes which come with your PC (WMP) or Mac (iTunes) can rip a CD to MP3. You just have to set it to that format under the options menu. Other various free media players such as Winamp can also do so. I personally have had good results ripping CDs with WMP 11.
