I was born and raised in the ghetto but now work for and live in upper class areas. I had a craptacular weekend and when I talk my slang is all over. They can barely understand me. You ever have this problem?

No, but I use language I ordinarily refrain from using, whenever I become angry. The way we are brought up is deeply ingrained in our subconscious, and even though we have bettered ourselves, some of the old childhood upbringing comes to the surface. However, it can be controlled if you are aware of it, and don't want to talk that way. You've come a long way, baby, so you have to remind yourself to speak like a lady with class, not crass. Good luck!

Although I was not raised in the ghetto, some pretty nasty language comes out of my mouth when I get angry.

I was born & raised in an affluent area. So, I don't think it makes much difference where we grew up, but what we were allowed to be exposed to by our parents in the growing process.

I think our anger is a natural reaction to feeling threatened.
Our survival instinct kicks in and we start defense techniques, like showing our strong side and unwillingness to be victimized.

My partner at work does this too. He is from Puerto Rico. I have noticed that when he talks with someone who is Hispanic or African American he gets to sounding like he is from the "hood". He talks slang, he even changes his voice. Then if he speaks with a Caucasian or a person higher in rank he changes back to a more reserved way of talking. I have brought this up to him before but he says I am imagining it. Now I just sit back and watch him as he goes about his duties changing back & forth. To me it does not matter. There's no one else I would trust my life with than him. Thanks Juan for all the fun on the shift.

I think anyone's slang or accent comes out when they get upset or emotional. Yes, I do.
