I have a five year old cousin who loves to play games. Now that is all fine and great, but I always have to play with her.Plus she cheats so much. She knows she does. She also thinks Im stupid enough to not notice.Im definitely noticing though.I want her to stop, her cheating is driving me crazy! She won't stop until she wins. For example, once we were playing this game where the object was to get to the finish first. There was one square near the finish. The rules were that ifyou landed on that particular square, you had to go all the way back to the beginning. She rolled a four and that happened to be how many spaces she had to the unlucky square. She decided to then start counting with zero- 0 1 2 3 4 ,which meant she really moved 5 spaces and avoided the danger.Shechanged the rules to fit her needs. I want her to stop cheating and let her know that Iknow she's cheating, but if I just tell her, she'll hold a grudge against me. How do i tell her to stop in a more subtle way that 5 year olds get?

5 year olds are incapable of "subtle ways" ... they are ME centered beings at that age ... the ONLY way to get her to stop is to STOP playing with her altogether ... she will get the message

You can do one of two things.

Refuse to play with her unless she obeys the written rules that accompany the game - regardless of whether she's winning or not.

Let her play by her rules. She'll eventually find out the hard way that rules are to be followed - as in with school, the law, driving, etc. later on. Especially when she hits the age where mummy and daddy can't run interference.

I'd personally take the first choice but then I don't live in your house.

She's just a kid. She'll grow out of the cheating habit. Most kids do. Give her time, if you don't like putting up with her cheating, tell her you're too busy to play games. Or you could just let her win. It's nothing to get upset about.

Have her play by the rules. Make her.
If she doesn't, refuse to play. It only gets harder because when she's older (like 20 or so) if you cheat you could go to jail.
I have an 11 year old nephew who wants us to "Let" him win at every game we play. I refuse and tell him on one "lets" you win in real life.
Of course my wife and her sisters feel sorry for him and let him win at games they play.
