Given the repression of dissidents in Iran, is bitterness growing and that country ticking away toward another great revolution?

I'm not sure if a revolution will happen again with the same quality and proportions as of 1979 revolution. But there are definitely constant changes and movements in society and hopefully this will eventually lead to a free and prosperous society.

But reading some of the comments I think it's funny what some outsiders think about Iran :

""Unlikely -- they had their revolution in 2004.""

- False! the revolution happend in 1979, ever since no major change in political system of Iran has happened, nothing big enough to be considered a 'revolution'

"Iran was a progressive, pro-western country until a few years ago, when the population demanded that they elect a hard-line conservative to protect them from the threats they perceived -- including the US, who had just invaded the two countries on either side of them (Iraq and Afghanistan)."

-False! ; I dont think almost 3 decades can be called 'a few years' ever since the revolution in 1979 Iran has never been progressive or pro-western in true sense of the meaning. People did not decide to elect a hard line conservative. There simply was no other choice.

"So, the current conservative Iranian regime is in response to their current environement -- and until that changes, it's unlikely that anyone is going to rise up. And even if they do -- Iran is a democratic republic -- they can elect a new leader without needing to have a revolution.
"

-FALSE! Iran is not a true democracy, you can not elect the leader, the superme leader has all the power to himself and he is not elected by people and he has much influence on all organizations and media and everything. Through guardian council he can even decide who can be a candidate for presidential electons. Thats why elections in Iran are not truely free elections. Because people can only vote for those who are approved by the leader.

Unlikely -- they had their revolution in 2004.

Iran was a progressive, pro-western country until a few years ago, when the population demanded that they elect a hard-line conservative to protect them from the threats they perceived -- including the US, who had just invaded the two countries on either side of them (Iraq and Afghanistan).

So, the current conservative Iranian regime is in response to their current environement -- and until that changes, it's unlikely that anyone is going to rise up. And even if they do -- Iran is a democratic republic -- they can elect a new leader without needing to have a revolution.

Could be. Iran's biggest problems are economic. They've squandered their oil wealth, neglected economic development, allowed their infrastructure to decay, decimated education and scared most of their educated citizens out of the country. There's a lot of unrest, which the government tries to distract with tirades against the west and Israel, and chest-thumong about their hopes of becoming a nuclear power. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Either the USA or Israel will probably knock off Iran before their revolution.
