The first step is to look at the factor of the numerator and denominator. In this case the factors are as follows:
numerator: 5, 7 (7 x 5 = 35)
denominator: 5, 5, 2, 2 (5 x 5 x 2 x 2 = 100)
Next, eliminate the common factors. In this example each side shares "5" as a factor.
What you are left with is a fraction in its lowest terms, 7 / 20.

35/100
Find Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of 35 and 100. The GCF is **5**. Now, divided both numerator and denominator (as different division problems) by **5**.
35 divided by 5 is **7**.
100 divided by 5 is **20**.
So, 35/100, in lowest terms, is **7/20**.
I don't think there are any exceptions to this rule.

Divide the top and bottom by the same number until you're left with two numbers that don't have any factors in common.
I know both 35 and 100 are divisible by 5, so dividing the top and bottom by 5 gives 7/20. Since 7 doesn't have any factors than 1 and 7, and since 7 isn't a factor of 20, then this is as simple as you can get it.

find a common factor in this case 5 is simple and easy then divide the top and bottom by that number. so now it would be 7/20. 7 & 20 do not have any common factors so therefore that is in lowest terms. i am not good at big math so i never try to find the biggest number in common i use little number i know they have in common like i normally use 2,3,5,10. like is u had 36/100. i see they have 2 in common. divide top n btoom by 2 and get 18/50. but isee they alos have 2 in common. divide again and get 9/25. they dont have any more in common so its in lowest terms. so if u use small number u might have to divide a couple of times.

Think of a number that is a factor for both the numerator and the denominator.
In this case, five works.
Divide both the numerator and the denominator by this factor.
35/100 = 7/20
See if you can make it any smaller. There are no smaller numbers that divide into both the numerator and the denominator, so this fraction has been reduced.

if you can still divide both numbers by a common number, then it is not in it's lowest terms.
in the case of 35/100 what numbers calculate to make 35: 5x7.
what numbers calculate to make 100 which are in common with 35?
in this case 5x20. so the lowest would be 7/20

Find the greatest common denomenator (it is more art that science) and divide both number by it....
For 35/100, 5 is the largest common denomenator (I ran through possible numbers that will divide by both 35 and 100 in my head to come up with this...
So the reduced fraction is 7/20

You divide it down.
In this case both the numerator and denominator are divisible by 5.....so you could reduce the fraction to
35 divided by five = 7
100 divided by five = 50
The fraction reduced to lowest terms is 7/50th's.
