Regarding HPTs and timing...(quick question)?

Question

Is there any harm in peeing on a stick at any other time of the day, besides morning? Are the results accurate?

What's your experience?

Argh...just tested on a hunch and got a negative. Sigh. I'm 10dpo.

You may get a false negative, especially if you are taking it before your missed period. The first morning urine (as soon as you wake up) is most concentrated with hCG, the hormone that the test is looking for. Once you are up and about, and drinking and eating, it may dilute the urine later in the day. If you just went and bought one, you can take it, but if it is negative, you might want to try again in a couple days with first morning urine (FMU). When I was pregnant with my son, I had some implantation spotting which I thought was my period starting early. After a few days and nothing more coming, I took a pregnancy test at like 5pm and it came up clearly positive. So, it just depends on how much hCG is in your system. Good luck!

i tested with both pregnancies in the afternoon around the time of my period, or what i thought was my period just on a feeling that something was up - no typical preg symptoms. I tested around day 28 of my cycle not yet understanding that my cycles were usually about 30-32 days. The first morning pee is the strongest but you can get a positive anytime of the day as long as you are close to your period. Don't cha just HATE the wait?!?!?! I am currently in the 2ww and each day i count the days till i can test, its crazy!

You can take an HPT anytime during the day but your first mornings urine has the most HCG in it so thats why they suggest first thing. I did mine at 9 PM and got a bright positive :)

with my first daughter I tested in the afternoon and it was positive. But u you really wait 5 more days and re test in the morning. Then u will know for sure if u are or not. If not do not stress this will be my 5th month trying.

Both times I got a positive result, I took the test before I missed my period, and not using first morning urine.

Yes, HPT's are still acurate at any time, (the hormone is there, or it isn't...) they are just more accurate when your urine is concentrated, such as after several hours of sleeping. I've taken them in the afternoon with acccurate results.
