Stay focused and strong. I speak from first hand knowledge. I moved out on my own when 17. I thought I had it all figured out and was very cocky. Then I lost my job, my car broke down, and was stuck out in the suburbs. Eventually I was evicted and ended up at a homeless shelter. All I had were some clothes I brought with. Every morning at 0600 we had to leave the shelter. About 2 weeks into staying there I was told I had to sign up for public aid and "donate" a percentage back to the shelter. I refused because I knew that if I did that, I would become a permanent homeless person. I was determined not to be like some of the others at the shelter who would be there until the day they died. Everyday I looked at the help wanted ads and began applying everywhere. I finally got a job with a very prestigious jewelry company and after my first paycheck I got the hell out of there. Exactly a year later I was living in an upper class neighborhood and had a nice house. So if ever faced with that type of issue you can either give up and let others take control of you or you can take control of yourself and your life.

I want to say I disagree with someone else's statement on here about how there are very few people who are homeless that are not either criminals or mentally ill. Because of the cost of living in some places, having just one job (especially if it's minimum wage) is not going to be enough to cover the cost of living. I took a social work class a couple years ago that said that a large majority of people in this country are one paycheck away from being considered in poverty.
My suggestions would be to try to find a place to stay with either a relative or a friend. If that doesn't work out, look in the phonebook for homeless shelters and see about staying there. Get a job (or jobs) as soon as possible and be very careful with how you spend your money, so you can save up to possibly rent an apartment or something like that, as well as pay other bills. Good luck.

First you'll want to generate some income and I would recommend standing at an on ramp of a busy free way and have a sign that says you are a homeless vet and any money will help. God Bless! That will be a good start to earning some money for your MD 20/20's that I suggest you drink constantly.
Eat only when you have too people give more money to skinny bums they look more needy. Keep your bank accounts open to deposit any extra money you make because you don't want to be killed by another hobo for a dollar. Don't carry food with you because the fatter bums not getting paid need to eat and your food could mean your life. I pan handler told me about not keeping food on you.
The great thing about being homeless is you can sleep where ever you want. If you are tired of driving and want to ditch your car that you have been living out of to this point you can start sleeping under overpasses with a community of bummies.
Now this is when you need to ask yourself should I get another job or get a bus ticket to san diego fly to Honolulu and take a permanent vacation from work. Your choice but I would probably just show up to work on time, be productive and don't put yourself in a position to get fired.
If you are really forced to be homeless I would get on unemployment right away and rely on friends until you find another job. Friends should be able to help you out for at least a month which should give you time to get back on your feet. There is no reason for you to be jobless in this country unless you don't want to work.
I hope you never have to endure any of this so good luck in life sir.

First thing is you need to find a place near restaurants. They throw out lots of food every night. If you get the food quickly, it should still be all right.
Sleeping is going to depend where you live. In a small town, the woods, big city, the park or doorway. Look for middle of the road neighborhoods. Nice places the cops will hassle you, bad places you'll be killed. You will want to sleep during the day. At night, keep moving.
Act crazy, if you are begging, act like a child, make people pity you. But you must seem harmless. If you scare people you won't get money. Also, clean up the local garbage in the area. This way you will be viewed as "harmless but helpful."
If you are frightened by other homeless people of drug addicts, you need to act "mean crazy." Mutter about the devil, the end of the world, drinking blood. But seriously, you need to avoid crack addicts.
Above all, trust no one. Watch your back at all times.
(I was homeless for awhile, you won't like it.)
Good luck with your new life.
Joe

Move to Las Vegas: They arrest people for being poor and not able to pay their bills! They even give you a choice to leave town by bus and will give you a free bus ticket to leave. The Homeless in Las Vegas ask for Beer Money and drink Lattes..The weather is generally mild in winter. Don't expect welfare or charity of any kind and that applies to the working poor as well.

I am not sure why you would want to think like this. Homelessness is usually something that depends on many different circumstances. There fore so is the way you would seek help. Do you need help in finding resources or are you doing a study ?

There are very few homeless who are not either criminals or that have mental problems.
We can thank Ronald Reagan and his political spawn for that.
There are some who are just average people that suddenly find themselves in dire straights. These can usually find assistance of some sort until they can get back on their feet. Some devolve to a level that keeps them homeless, and/or fail to survive.

1. Look for short term housing, perhaps a homeless shelter or a church mission.
2. If you are not employed, look for work. It doesn't have to be in your dream possession - just something that earns you some money.
3. Save as much money as you can, and try to find affordable housing as soon as possible.

This is a very sad question, but i recomend that they have places for you to sleep and eat out there, so you only would be part time homeless.
