A legitimate agency signs experienced performers. Do not spend money on a scout or convention if you do not have training and experience in your field.

If you want to become a dancer, model, actor, or other performer, take classes in your town. Act in school or local theater. First, get an agent in your city, or in the nearest city.

Don't let the "scouts" tell you they can sell you exposure, or a big break. It never happens.

Acting is hard work, and take years of dedication and experience, in addition to training and talent.

There are no shortcuts. Honest.

It really depends on where you live and what you're trying to do.

Someone in New York, NY will not have too much trouble finding legit agencies but they will need one for everything they want to do, ie a Theatrical Agent, a Film Agent, a Voice-Over Agent etc.

Someone in say Texas may find agents harder to get their hands on, but would be looking for a "Talent Agent" that would manage everything.

My advice is figure out what you're trying to do. Then look and see what unions protect these people (such as I do musical theatre, so I would be a part of Actors Equity) but when you find a union contact the local office and ask for a list of verified agencies.

If you're looking into acting, check AFTRA, DGA, SAG, WGAE, WGAW, and AE

As far as the conventions (i know there's a different name for them i just cant think of it) that all depends on where you are also. i mean some of them travel but most don.t

Also I'd just like to point out, unless you're in a relatively small town, a talent "convention" should specialize in one area. MEaning you shouldn't actually be able to go and try out in all those areas at once. I'm not saying they don't have them, but most likely it's a hoax. Because they'll have them for actors, and others for models, and others for dancers...so if you look to go to one with a variety and such, I'd check it out thoroughly.

I have heard that there are, but am unaware of any at this time.
Pro Scout is not 100% on the up and up. Be careful. The best way to get seen by several agents or casting directors at one time would be in a talent showcase given by a university or conservatory acting program.

There are many!
They can get pricey, and there is no guarentee it will be worth the money...

I know of IMTA (International Model and Talent Association)

The biggest thing for everyone to keep in mind, if you don't already live in the city (LA or NYC) the agent or Manager will NOT SIGN YOU! So if you drop 5 grand to goto a convention you better have another 5 grand to move to the city (and find a job, a house/apartment, etc...)
