For all those that strongly dissagree i would like to tell you a story.

A friend of mine became pregnant she was overjoyed. 3 mths in they told her the child had a growth stemming from the back of her head all the way down her back. If the child was born it would not live for more than a few months and for these months it would be in agony she opted for an abortion she says at that moment she lost a part of herself she has never got over it did she make the right desision i belive yes

why should a woman be restrained from making a decision that is affecting her and not anybody else?

I don't agree with it, but i don't disagree with it either.

First off, when you first become pregnant for the first few months, it is nothing more but an embryo, without the mother's nutrients, it would not survive. The embryo is like a seed, depending SOLELY on the mother's eating and drinking, without her supplying it, it'll die off just as easily. Do you consider an embryo a child? a human? When it has not developed a heart or a brain or "conscience?" So it's not really murder, right?

I disagree with abortion at the stage of pregnancy when the baby has formed bone marrows, nervous system, heart beats... etc. This is when even if the baby is born immature, he/she could still have a chance to survive if taken out of the mother's womb (w/o her nutrients, it has a "chance"). Now, this is an actual baby, a child who deserves a right to live.

so there's a difference when you actually consider abortion murder or not.

There are also other medical reasons, the mother could die unless she gets the abortion... and Sometimes a woman gets raped and can't bare the idea of having the rapist's child... is it fair to say to her "No, you HAVE to have the baby, the baby has a right to live..." Where were HER rights (the mother's) when she was raped and striped of her dignity and choice?

that's my intake. Abortion or not... It is not OUR business to judge and accuse anyone of it. We've got many things we don't understand about each other and everyone's got their own reasons... Just be open minded and accept it for what it is.

No pun intended, but can the life first be taken out of this question and then added later?
Why is it if a pregnant woman is killed then there is a charge of two deaths. I see only one life taken.
If the babys' heart is beating at 5 wks, then is it o.k. at 3 wks to abort?
Raped, this of course makes the child a bad person. We must be sure that this rape child never grows to have or remember a single memory.
Adopt? Well I just don't see everyone jumping at the chance to have someone else's unwanted problem, (see above statement).
Which leads to, if you read this far, make the unborn completely born?
At the point pregnancy it is known, Doc fills out forms, you then start paying for baby and have to name it once their able to determine the sex.
Everyone then loses the fun of waiting for the guess of what sex it is.
Going to eat, ummm-sorry two meals after all you say two life's died, they say one life. I say pay for two and there are two.
Shows, see above, hey you even get to claim the seat next to you its paid for.
Doctor exams, two people in that exam.
Taxes, the same you start claiming the first year even if you aren't due till the next year.
5 wks, 3wks, 1wk, if your paying, the term is unimportant, you just need to start paying for the second life ASAP. If you choose not to pay, then pay to have your problem removed, nothing more than a tumor or cyst. There can be no waiting for thinking or deciding. What ever is decided must be when the doctor's test shows your positive.
Keep in mind that if a woman is stopped for something like speeding. The officer upon checking the pregnancy status, which would be required of any legally, detained person appearing to be pregnant. If they are paying for the second life then someone in that car must be charged with child endangerment. The children's safety laws would then be enforced in all situations.
Once you are paying then if you chose to change back to thinking it's not a life. Sorry you chosen freely, its murder of a separate life, regardless that its life still depends on you.
Now there are two lives in that drive by
Two lives that drowned in the pool
Two people involved in that family dispute
Sorry guys until we can be pregnant, we can be checked for that potbelly, but will lose some grounds in the domestic situations. If you strike a woman that has a paid second life, those child laws will be used to charge you also.

Just because people can make babies doesn't mean they should have babies. If people could grasp this there would be no need for abortions.
Abortions are terrible and horrific things but I'm sorry they do have a place in society.
There are women whose lives are at risk because they are pregnant, there are babies that suffer great pain and don't live long with deformities and stuff that make life unbearable and of course there are women who are raped and the trauma of giving birth to a product from it can destroy them. For those kinds of pregnancies I'm afraid that abortions should be an option, because not having one can destroy even more lives.
It's a sad state of affairs when women use them as birth control, and I find that pretty repulsive (it should never be a form of birth control, abortions should be for far more complex issues/reasons). But as a last resort and for the cases I've specified I do think it should remain an option.

dont understand these people saying abortion should be illegal unless the woman has been raped...well surely this wouldnt work the woman could simply say she had been raped if there was no proof...and if you are saying killing another life is wrong but not if the woman has been raped...so this makes the baby not a life because its father is a rapist..u could say i dont believe in abortion unless the woman is in a relationship with an alcoholic or a woman beater...does this mean the baby would follow the same steps as this.
what i am saying is i think it is right that abortion is legal every situation is different and usually the people who say it should be illegal are the ones that live a happy life with their little family and baby and cant see what happens in the real world.
not really any point in asking this question as nobody is going to agree.

I belive that if a woman or girl has been raped they most certainly should be allowed to abort they have been through alot of trama already the last thing they need to do is give birth to the baby if they don't want to. I aslo belive in quality of life if the child is going to have 4 hands half a bowl missing and not stand a chance of living a normal pain free life i would prefer to abort it. Also at the end of the day if it is made illegal they will just end up going and having it done in back alleys with knitting needles and end up bleeding to death this was SO common back in the day it is the reason abortion was made legal

i think abortion should be a personal choice. my friend has two boys aged 7 and 4 and fell pregnant, she felt she didnt want another child at that time and did what she thought was right by having abortion, that was a year ago now, and she is deeply regretting it. i think had she had more counselling she wouldnt have gone through with it. on the other hand, if she had kept the baby, i feel regretting having a child is more dangerous than regretting an abortion. depends on circumstance.

Making it illegal won't stop this from happening. Our daughters will just go out and get it done illegally, ending up with infections and death. Now they are done safely at least.

Why is it that the argument for or against abortion ALWAYS revolves around the rights of the baby?

If we want to end abortion, we have to start getting the MOTHERS more rights. More maternity leave, more WIC, more help. If you don't want to support abortion, fine. Then you HAVE to support the mothers and give them what THEY need to survive.

Also, think of the child they is to be aborted. If you are TRULY against abortion, then you should be for a better foster system. You SHOULD be for better health care for children born with HIV, addicted to heroin, and other problems that would cause the mother to abort in the right place.

Nothing is just about abortion or not. Unless you have been in the situation where abortion was a true option, it's hard for you to really say what it's like for those mothers.

I am Pro Choice which I have come to find is not a very common thing on Y! Answers. I feel every woman has the right to do what she wants with her body. A child is not even a fetus until 12 weeks after conception. If you do not feel you are ready to bring a child into this world then I agree that you should have the CHOICE to not have to do so.

I am sick to death of seeing these stupid abortion questions in the pregnancy section. Take it to women's health for phucks sake.

It's just going to get a whole lot of people all upset, and when you're pregnant that's the last thing you need.

Every time this issue comes up it's emotive and just a huge waste of time for no reason.

As for my opinion, women are masters of their own destiny and not vessels of the state or possessions of their husbands, so therefore abortion should be legal and a woman's choice. Making it illegal would just cause a whole lot of desperate women to seek backyard abortions and either die during it, soon after from an infection or end up permanently infertile due to a botched job. Or the baby could survive and be born permanently deformed or retarded.

i think it is dependant upon the situation. After having an abortion through rape I think it's important not to make it illegal. Having a child would have probably killed me let alone the mental trauma. I think in all instances a woman should try and go through with the pregnancy and put the child for adoption but in all instances that is not possible and abortion should be undertaken. I think it is better to not bring a child into a world where it will not receive a good life when it can comprehend what it is happening to it.
