The ladies in my club gave me a tip to a place where they buy most of their jewelery. This is an auction place where I am told ebay sellers buy from.

I wanted to buy my mum a birthday present so I went there and indeed some of the rings are beautiful. I was told by my experienced ladies to bid around 10% of the list price. Sometimes you can even get less. If the designs are nice, you may have to bid more. But it's definitely cheaper than other places.

But since it is an auction, don't bid immediately. Take 1 or 2 days to observe but register first just in case something suddenly comes up very cheap as there are few bidders.

When I looked yesterday, if you register now they even give you 10% off. They have a service where you can get the jewelery certified. I was worried it's not a real diamond so I got a certificate and I also went to a jewelery shop to check. Didn't want my mum upset that I got cheated. They also have pendants, chains, earrings etc starting from $20.

Good luck !

Do not get a diamond ring for your girlfriend, a different piece would be better, like pearl/diamond earrings, etc. If I received a diamond ring from my boyfriend, I would expect serious serious commitment. (unless that's what you're intending)
Shop around on the internet if you really want one, make sure the diamond has a certificate of authenticity, and please make sure to ask about "blood diamonds" and the certificate for that too!

depending upon where you are, go to Hannoush Jewelers (in NY). Do not go to Tiffany's they overprice their diamonds.

My other suggestion is if it's possible put the ring on layaway instead of on a credit card. If you put it on layaway, you have to put so much down and pay so much a month. With a credit card you get interest so you're paying more than what the ring is really worth.
