I started buying for both of my children after the 1st trimester, when the risk of miscarriage is greatly decreased, I would start with diapers and any furniture that would go in the nursery. Anything but clothes and decor such as comfortor and bumpers for the crib until you find out the sex of the baby. Unless you want to go for the unisex feel and be surprised. Then in that case anything goes. Congrats and good luck.

I didn't really buy much myself before the baby shower, cuz I didn't want to waste my money on things I might receive. The only things I bought were things I was particular about, like a certain baby book, cuz that's kinda more personal, and a diaper bag I finally found that I liked. I also bought a big white blanket with pink, blue, and green teddy bears on it cuz I really liked it and it was something neutral I could buy for my little boy or girl at the time. (I had a girl) You could start now if you want, I would mostly pick up things you really like that might disappear or change before you have your baby, and small basic things that you'll need right away. Keep everything packaged for now, then it won't get dusty, and get it out and ready closer to your due date (but not too close, in case the baby comes early).

you will have to was everything even the bedding before you use it it does not matter when you buy. If the baby comes and you buy an outfit from the store you will need to wash it before you put it on baby even if they ware it the next day. because they treat the clothes before they sell them with stretches which could brake the newborn out. So buy what you want now or later it will still need to be washed. I'm 22 weeks and just started to shop for baby I wait until I know the sex!

I was 8 weeks when I first started buying for my baby. So what if it gets dusty, that's what you have a washer for. Most of the things are going to sit around until it gets close to the time for the baby to be here. I didn't start washing things until about 3 weeks before my due date. Do what you feel comfortable doing! Congrats and Good luck!

I started shopping when I found out what I was having..But don't worry about clothes and bedding getting all dusty cause you have to wash it all before the baby can wear it anyway

I bought a few things once I found out the sex of the baby, but I registered at 6 months and got more than I thought I would, so I'm glad I didn't shop too much.

there is no such thing as to early buy those large zip bags for the blankets and the clothes if you are worried about dust. Babies are expensive and if you try to buy everything at once it can be pricy. If you want to put off on clothing and bedding at least start buying things like the crib, changing table, diaper pale, etc.

I started buying around that time for neutral stuff until you know the gender, like onesies and socks. But I found that as far as clothes its better to wait because you dont want to buy clothes and then not have the kid be able to wear them because its not the right season like we had people buy shorts and tank tops in 6-9 months and by that time it was cold outside and she never wore them. But buying the crib set early its usually packed in plastic so just dont take it out until you're ready for it. If you wait too long you're going to be running around like a chicken without a head when you should be taking your time and relaxing.
