In general I agree 100% with your contention that the corrupt politicians must be taken into task in line with the law of the land.
But please remember that in the past a few innocent people were implicated on frivolous ground and humiliated in front of live TV and press coverage. This is in violation of human right.
During the period of last BNP-Jamaat coalition government, our opponents used the government machineries to harm us and our company and were almost successful in their heinous crime against us. Thanks God that there is independent court operating in Bangladesh with no-emergency at that time. This made us to seek redress from the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
Btw, I was a bit sympathizer of the BNP as a lesser evil than the AL of that time. Alas, my favorite BNP's machineries were used to harm me by my opponent. Now think that you are accused wrongly or on fictitious ground and then how would you feel when you have no chance to seek redress from the HC?

What I think is not very important.
I am an American. Our status has really taken a hit regarding involvement in a trumped up war and lack of commitment to issues which are very important to me such as global warming and oil ties.
We did NOT Sign the Kyoto protocols on global warming.
We do not let the United Nations take the lead in international crises.
We DO Not Rely on diplomatic and economic measures rather than military ones in confronting terror.
We have sharply increased military spending and sharply decreased social spending.
I have been humbled by all of the above.
Yet, I am still proud to live where a person can be considered innocent until proven guilty.
We do charge and prosecute corrupt politicians and CEO's when they are caught..
The political system here is convoluted and we have a big mess also.
Corruption is a serious thing that hurts every single citizen in many ways.
Some families in Bangladesh are being hurt by charges that give the political opponents the power they seek.
The situation is being exploited by some just like the rulers did with the power they acquired.
If Democracy is strengthened, corruption done away with, peoples rights may have a chance to grow.
I would be watchful and very conscious of individual Human Rights at this time.
Khaleda Zia is not special, she was arrested for crimes and offences, Sheikh Hasina will not get off either, if justice decides she will be netted. Fair is fair. Do not forget the misgoverned mess they seem to have created. Looting and plundering has been prevalent.
As an outside observer I now see that the process is slowly turning and moving forward.
People I know have been detained. When I hear from them things like, " Do not worry the system is working as it should, we will be ok.", I marvel at the strength they have in still believing in the good of your country.....
Hear each case individually I plead.
The ideals of the Freedom Fighters, the desires of the good, hard working people are not the same as those who seek the greedy pay offs of power rather than the power of a fair democratic office.
I hear these words from my governments past as I look to Bangladesh.

Corrupt leaders should be removed from leadership. However, their punishment should be handled by a court without emotion. I have no opinion beyond that. It isn't my business to decide their punishment.
