how do i know how many catalytic converters my truck has?

Your truck has 2 converters in line, the first is right where the head pipes come together where the O2 sensor is screwed into the pipe and the second is a foot or so downstream from that. The only way this isn't correct is if some one has installed aftermarket exhaust of some sort and then you will have to slide under your truck and see what it has.

That truck could have two three or four depending on the exhaust manifold design where the truck was made for and wheather it has true dual exhaust. Most likely two manifold cats and just past the Y pipe another converter. One way you can tell find the last O2 sensor and look for cat converters ahead of that sensor. California emissions were more strict so more converters.

Get under your truck and look for them. They are usually shaped like a muffler but have a protective grill over them. If you do not know what your looking for take it to a local muffler shop they can tell you. Depending upon where you live and what the regulations are, Or who you know the muffle shop might be able to remove them for you and put a straight peice of pipe there, and then you do not have to worry about them plugging up on you!!

The should be four - - one on each side of the engine (closest to the exhaust manifold) are the "pre-cats" and then the other two (larger) a little downstream are the processor cats. You can get underneath and examine the exhaust to see this.
