It depends on what you mean by “taking arms against.” Brothers fought on opposite sides in the US Civil War. Actually shooting at your own brother, such as shooting at his regiment from across the battlefield, knowing that you might hit him, is a different matter entirely. An understanding commanding officer might let you out of that situation. If not, I just wouldn’t participate even if it meant very severe punishment.

Family members fequently were at arms against one another in the Ameican civil war, and, I can easily imagine Americans killing other Americans if our social order and basic needs (electricity, police, sewers, water, etc,) broke down in America. Look at all the hatred, shallow and for the most part uninformed and uneducated opinion felt with passion, that occurs here every day.

I would take up arms against anyone who posed a threat.
If my brother, by his own free will, forced me to do so, yes I would.

I would indeed. While ties between brothers are strong, ties between countrymen are stronger. Or something like that.

Why would americans fight against eachother? ohhh, because politicians divided fools into 2 political groups as opposed to fighting for your constitution and country you'll be fighting for a party or group.

It depends upon the circumstances. If he was supporting something I thought wasn't morally right, yes I would. If I met him on the battlefield, however, I would not raise my sword (or probably gun now) on him, even if it meant death by him or the cause I support.
