I'm from Bangladesh and I got a bit amused by the question and a few responses corroborating the Asker's line of thought.
It is sad that people in England are suffering from floods, and one of my friends Keny already suffered in the last month's flood. She was having real tough time with three small kids to take care in a situation where her house was surrounded by water and no electricity, running water and other utilities services.
I wish we could have contributed in any manner. In fact, Bangladesh does send Tea, jute bags and such items to disaster prone areas and even contributed financially last year for a country which would not mind accepting friendly gifts.
Now, if several of Band Parties of Bangladesh get together and go for live concert, the way they have done a few times in recent years, would UK people and government accept our 'fund'?
Let us know if the Tea or Jute bags (to be filled with sand and used as flood protection barrier) would be more practical to the affected areas? It would be our pleasure to stand beside you in your testing time, the way you people have done all the years for us.

Agree 100%.
Spencer D: I definitely don't agree with you. Some insurance companies are doing the "Act of God" ****. But even those with insurance will have to start from scratch and I don't think insurance companies will be paying out that much, do you?
I don't give a damn if we are the wealthiest nation in the WORLD. British people have been delving into their pockets for decades to help different countries of the world deal with famine, flooding, etc. and I'll bet nobody even THOUGHT about insurance when giving. But when the boot is on the other foot where's the assistance? CHARITY SHOULD BEGIN AT HOME. So, get the disaster funds going and give assistance without bleating about insurance.

No one will hold a concert for us, now if it had been flooding in Scotland, or Wales they just might have, or we the English would have, Gordon Brown is Scottish so there will be no help from the goverment also.

i agree with you. this is a disaster for the UK, we don't have many in the whole scheme of things, but some of our countrymen are suffering. when we help third world countries by financial contributions, food aid, red cross etc we act immediately. without question. at home we, who are not affected, don't consider it to be serious. you loose all account number insurance details, bank details, original birth certificates, passports and... shall i go on? how many of you keep all these details else where, off your premises? (in case of fire maybe) England as a nation give a dam in a crisis, who gives a dam about England?

we are the first to give and the last to receive.how many small children and old people are going to be affected by the raw sewage running down the streets.luckily we don't have a death toll yet(thank god) but what diseases are to come.this may be a rich country but how long will it be before resources are dried up?supermarkets are now rationing food because lorries can't get through, some villages are cut off completely.luckily i live in the north on high ground and haven't been affected by the floods at all but my heart goes out to each and every person who has.And i agree with all NANCY D has said.

I agree with Chipmonk above me 100%
Are you mad?
How many people in the UK are going to starve, die of diarrhea, be sleeping outside in the rain because of the floods. Er, that will be none!
There is not a disaster in the UK, far from it. The biggest problem most will have is whether the insurance will pay out. People had the chance in the UK to rescue personal belongings, pets etc etc before this happened.
How you can compare losing a sofa and carpets to losing your life is unbelievable. Why don't you google some of the natural disasters that have occurred in the third world, the tsunami in 2004 for example and then tell me how you come up to the conclusion they should raise money for us now......
FFS, some peoples attitudes stink...........

I presume your referring to the Concert for Bangladesh which was to raise funds when Bangladesh was hit by a massive tropical cyclone. Considering that the cyclone caused absolute devastation and killed up to 500,000 people, and wiped out crops leaving many to starve, I think the circumstances are a little bit different. There have been a handfull of deaths related to these floods (which is tragic obviously but cannot compare to the figures killed in Bangladesh) and we are one of the richest countries in the world. What is happening is terrible and I feel for the people who have lost their possessions, homes and in a few cases loved ones, but it's not the same thing.

I'm thinking the fairgrounds where it was held. If they had let you known earlier maybe everyone could've vacated the place and people's cars would still be good. I definitely hope somebody besides you takes reponsibility for the damage!
