if the defrost termination thermostat or thermometer keeps going bad usually the problem could be a few things 1 if the defrost heater has been replaced then it could be a higher wattage heater than the original was causing it to pull to many amps through the termination thermostat...2 the defrost termination thermostat could be rated to few watts for your defrost heater, this would cause the contacts inside the termination thermostat to either burn together or burn off not allowing your defrost heater to operate.....3 defrost timer could have been changed to one with a longer defrost cycle causing the termination switch to cycle the defrost heater to much...any one of these could cause this problem...if everything is original except the termination thermostat, then it is not the correct one for your refrigerator or it wasn't put back in its original location on the freezer coils close to the heater....it could be to close to the heater...this would cause it to cycle to many times during each defrost cycle causing it to go bad very fast... if the defrost timer was bad it either wouldn't defrost at all or wouldn't freeze at all...if the heater was bad it wouldn't defrost and eventually your freezer would ice up and not allow your fridge section to get cold...

Defrost Termination Thermostat

Defrosting is a cycle that is controlled by a timer. When it comes to the correct time the defrost starts (either electric heater or valve to redirect hot condensate). There is an override temperature sensor to get you out of the cycle in case the timer fails but it is secondary to the timer action.

If it failed twice you should be looking for a replacement for the defrost timer. They are easy to reach and simple to install (in general) and cost about $15. If you really need the matching thermostat (Kenmore and whirlpool) they have that too for about $20

I have no idea of what you are talking about, but go to http://appliancequickfix.com/ and they will tell you all about how your fridge works.
