I need some suggestions/recomendations on what I will need when she comes home in late August early September. I registered already but I know I might need other things because she is a preemie.

you won't need many different things for your child when she comes home that a full term baby would need, Smaller clothes and mayne smaller nipples for the baby bottles, just plain and simple smaller everything. You will not need things for umbilical care since the cord will fall off while your baby is still in the hospital. Everything else is just about the same though.

I know the feeling i had my baby the day before my surprise baby shower. You do need enough preemie clothes my little boy didn't really start gaining weight till 3 months and every baby is different. I suggest picking those out yourself my son has so many clothes he doesn't wear cause i just don't like the ones he got as gifts. Wal mart does have good clothes for preemies. Everything you need is basically the same it's just the clothes that are not going to fit. A boppy is the best, and maybe a glider not swing. Congrats and Good luck

My baby was a 27 weeker born last October and I almost cancelled my shower, and I am so glad I didn't!! My suggestions for things you will need, aside from normal baby things....
1. If your baby has reflux issues, which is pretty common in preemies, make sure you have LOTS of burp clothes! I got the Gerber cloth diapers and used those. At first we went thru probably 8 a day!! So stock up!
2. A swaddling blanket. I bought one at Babies R Us that had a little foot pouch and velcro closures, my son LOVED being swaddled and this one was great. I think it is by Kiddopotomus.
3. A baby swing. This was an absolute necessity for my son!! For the first 2-3 months he was home, he either slept on me or in the swing. He loved it. And it allowed me to take a break once in awhile.

Those are the things that stick out in my mind. I'm sure you will discover things you need after she comes home, I know I did. I can't tell you how many late night WalMart runs we had to make!!

Many, many congrats on your special little miracle. You are in for a wild ride that is worth every single minute.

The only thing different she may need is preemie clothes and diapers. Maybe a smaller pacifier, but your hospital
should supply that. Usually they wait to send the preemies home until they are a certain size, almost the size of a full term baby. Congratulations and best wishes!

Mine came early at 32, and we were unprepared, and went down the aisles at target throwing everything in the cart.

What really helped with a preemie was obviously the smaller clothes. We also liked that in bed sleeper, its like a small mattress with mesh around it, to put in the middle of your bed. Used that for a few months.

Meals from friends are also nice from any new mom.

If I think of more, Ill add on, drawing a blank at the moment.

Have your baby shower late August. There is no need to rush into everyone returning gifts and buying other things. Also, your baby may grow quickly. If you have a bunch of Preemie outfits, she may never even wear them. Call your friends and reschedule the shower until the end of August. You need to be at the hospital bonding with her and not fooling around with a shower right now. Good luck.

Don't invest in too much special "premmie" stuff. Just get the minimum of what you need. They don't stay little very long - plus some preemies will only take a certain bottle/ nipple and formula ( if you choose not to breast feed) so it's not a good idea to buy them before you find out what kind to get.
Good luck and hope all goes well

well, its hard to tell how big she will get between now and when she leaves the hospital. But you can count on needing a few premie outfits, 1 box of premie diapers, 1 box of newborn diapers, 1 box of size ones, bottles, and nipples. Preemies need a few smaller sized items at first but they quickly grow out of them.

My son was under 5 lbs when he was born. You still need all the baby basics. Besides that, you will need to make sure your car seat has a head support or roll up some receiving blankets to use as a head support. Also, you will need plenty of premie clothes and premie diapers. Walmart has a great selection of premie clothing and they sell premie diapers. I prefered the pampers premies (compared to huggies) since they fit better.
