I thought hospitals had higher c-section rates because they get more $$$ from them in the insurance calculation, c-section births require the mom to stay longer after, compared to rushing thru labor. Plus keep their surgery centers busy.
Now, for the hospitals, if both are rated the same medically, look at how the fathers get treated. For example private room costs, and also sleeping arrangements for the dads, and meals. That can make a huge difference. Granted you are in a lot of pain (labor) but some rooms only have a crappy chair for the dads to sleep in. Plus when you're trying to nurse after, you often want a private room, or a private bath, for all the other fun things that happen after labor.

I'm in Missouri but I would say whichever hospital has the best Preemie Unit. If your baby has any kind of problem when he or she is born, the baby will be transferred to this hospital anyway. So, whichever has a bigger and better Neo-Natal center.

As a pediatrician (from the midwest) my bias would be towards the hospital with the best neonatal unit. If you have picked a pediatrician, ask him or her for input.
Obviously maternal care is important, too. Does your OB have a strong opinion?

I think both are trained well and you should be happy with either..Does your doctor have a certain hospital? Which is closer to you in case of an emergency?? Good luck!

Before our son was born, we had many folks recommend St. Vincent to us. My wife's OB was affiliated with that hospital, and when our son was born, they treated us very well there.

Depends on how old you are and which one is higher rated for emergencies.
How much risk you want to take.

Neither. Hospitals have high c-section rates because they like to rush you through. Talk to a birthing center.

Why are you going to a hospital to do something your body is designed to do. Hospitals are for sick people, not for a natural birthing process. 85% of the babies in the world are born at home, so why are you spending upwards of $10,000 for this so called service. Try talking to a mid-wife in your area.
