He is who he is. He isn't going to change. If I were you, I would begin my hunt for another job. Don't try to change him.

Take classes to improve your skills, or learn new skills in a field that has many job opportunities and pays well.

Don't let any boss make your life miserable. It isn't worth it. Move on to bigger and better things. Never give up on education and improving yourself.

Rule # 1 - if you're still getting paid.....that's good :-)

If there truly is nothing to do, try asking for manuals or training material to read - if your boss knows you're being proactive that'll help your career.

You might ask your colleagues if you can help - sometimes the boss thinks there's nothinh to do, but a colleague may be struggling - but may not want to admit it. If you can help a colleague, you gain an ally.

Where do you work? Depending on what line of work you are in, perhaps there may be things you can do without being asked or told, and it will show that you take the initiative and are a diligent worker. Otherwise, enjoy getting paid while you're not asked to do very much.

Ask whoever else is around if there's anything you can do.

If not, organize things, whether on your computer or in the non-virtual world.
